Zavier Betts

It seems like the two tackle spots are the biggest variables. It all hinges on If Prochazka is healthy and Benhart takes a jump in development. There's sufficient talent and depth on the interior spots, but that changes quickly if they have to start shuffling Corcoran around. Getting that transfer OT from Utah may prove to be a very wise move.
It's hard to get too darn optimistic when you reflect back on last season's OL play-----Ugh!

But one of the beauties of the college game is that players improve as they get older along with quality coaching. An OC's offensive scheme that's built on his OL's strengths instead of play-calling to their weaknesses would also help.

I've been around long enough to have seen some one-year miracles. Nobody who watched the way our Blackshirt defense performed under Craig Bohl expected the one season make-over that took place under Bo Pelini. That one season as DC is 100% of the reason why Nebraska hired him as head coach years later.

If we have a breakout season this year, I guarantee you we'll all be talking about Coach Riaola and the improved play of our OL.

The Omaha World Herald a similar article about Zavier. Coaches are impressed by his “burst speed”, also Receivers coach Garret McGuire says he looks different than the other receivers, also says he is long with his 6’2” frame. He wants to be playing at 220 lbs. I know that Niles Paul had that type of build.

The most positive aspect is that he had to make up 21 hours of credits. He accomplished that. That to me shows his tenacity to achieve his goals. If he was disciplined enough to do that, just think what he can do on the field. Sometimes those second chances in life will make one reassess themselves for the better.

21 hours is a crap load of classes. The fact he accomplished that is amazing. Hope it runs over to the football field too.

I have a hunch that one of Rhule and company's most underrated moves is reaching out to Betts and IGC and getting them back into the fold. Our WR room looks a whole lot different without them.
I’m glad Betts is back. Him having a “gap year” somehow feels way better to me than IGC quitting DURING THE SEASON. I’m hoping for team success where IGC never steps foot on the field.

This 21 hours he got may go much further than just football. I would say it puts him very much in line to earn a college degree which could make life a lot better for him post football, he would have that degree to fall back on, if needed.

I don't get the hype with the return of IGC. With all the young talent coming on board at the position I don't think he sees the field.
You can never have too many fast receivers. :CORN:

The beauty of what I'm seeing develop with this year's offense is that Satty's clear focus is on developing a strong ground game. But with the dangerous receivers we'll be lining up and a big, strong-armed QB known for his accuracy, defenses won't be able to load the box on us.

If Sims lives up to his billing, our offense could surprise a whole bunch of people.

I hear ya. My perspective is he's a veteran with 103 collegiate receptions. Only Kemp with 192 receptions has more. Without Betts and IGC, we would be dangerously thin on WR experience. It would be great if Betts starts and IGC provides veteran depth while the younger guys get up to speed.

I hear ya Doc, and I don't mean to bedowngrade (tip of the cap to Mike Gundy) him. Would love to see him contribute this year. But his departure last year was curious to say the least. And his resume, with all due respect to Luke's comments, is pretty slim.

Yes, he does have over 100 collegiate receptions, but 56 of those were at Saddleback JC. That success got him attention from none other than NM State, which, let's face it, is just a notch above Saddleback.

He transfers to Nebraska, had one good game against THE worst D1 program in the country last year (even though they went on to beat...to beat...ARGGHH, I can't even say it! Thank you Scott Frost), then completely disappeared the next two games, and finally up and quit. Frankly I was surprised the new staff found it in their heart to give him another chance, but I'm no Paul Harvey. We may never know the rest of the story, so I'll put my faith in HCMRh and his decision to bring him back.
