Why can we not take a snap under center?

I genuinely believe Scott Frost’s offense can work, even in the B1G. But I think we beat both Colorado and Northwestern if we: 1) manage the clock better when we have a lead at the end of games and 2) can take a snap under center and run a QB sneak.

There’s got to be a way to improve/implement those things, right?

The shotgun was used by TO as part of the process to win the game against Missouri in 1997

Man, glad we have so many coaches.
Ok, back in the day, almost every team was under center, and as time went along, the shot gun and pistol were developed and used exclusively by some teams.
While this was going on, the teams under center had certain plays at shotgun to give the defense a different look.
Its no different than emptying your back field, or, calling in a TE and a rb from an empty, but from shotgun.
The idea is to run a heavy set, with a lead block, its about timing and consistency, and leaves less room for each, so, practice time is required.
Any set, from whomever to where er eventually gets on tape, and DCs game plan for it, like the odd wing type 2 pt conversions.
Basically, its not an advantage unless you do it very well, practice it alot, and commit certain players to it.

Which plays that we run would be more effective if they started under center?

Crazy I am not sure most of us want Martinez under center all the time. Most of us would like it to happen on 3rd and or 4th and inches so the sneak is in order. Other teams are in shot gun 99.95% of the time but I see them sneak. Why not practice it a bit during the week, would take that much time.

Maybe you can figure out a way to clone Nick Saban so we can have him coach every position on the team.
Bugs I don't really want him, folks just like to drop his name so I thought I would. The main point was successful shotgun teams go under center from time to time.

As many have said: it's not Frost's style. We've got a new center and a freshman QB who probably never took a snap under center in HS. It's a moot point anyways; if the O-line could get a push on inside zone, it wouldn't matter.

Harder to snap the ball across the ground for 6 feet if the snap is taken under center.

And I still think we beat both Colorado and Northwestern if we snap the ball with 5 seconds on the play clock instead of 20.
