What to do at QB?

Right Mc Cord is a better qb than anyone on our staff. He may not be perfect but as I said on any given Saturday there are 200 QB s playing that are better than ours

Please just go after Cameron Ward. He showed a little interest prior to his WSU transfer.

I'm not a believer in the slow build model. In today's transfer portal era, you need to win to get the good players and if you're not you're going to lose your good players to other teams. This is a completely different world of college football then when Rhule last coached.
Ward likely would stay at WSU than come to Neb but money talks and BS walks...He is/would make a great QB at DONU

WSU is in no man's land in regards to their conference, I am sure if WSU and Nebraska were his only two options (which is not the case 96% of D1 schools would take him) then I am sure he would want to play in a P5 conference.

Oregon State, Washington State, Mountain West finalize scheduling agreement for 2024 college football season

Oregon State and Washington State are planning to use an NCAA rule that gives them two years to reach the eight-member conference minimum, meaning the pair could go through the 2024 and 2025 seasons as a two-team conference. In practice, the duo will function more as independents. The partnership with the Mountain West allows the schools to fill six much-needed slots on the schedule, along with a scheduled game against each other. Washington State and Washington have also agreed in principle to extend the Apple Cup rivalry through at least 2028 as the Huskies move to the Big Ten in 2024.

He is not an accurate passer. Most of his year consisted of throwing up jump balls for Marvin Harrison Jr. to bring down.
Look I mean no disrespect and I certainly don't mean to be disrespectful but this is patently unfair and inaccurate.

For arguments sake let's take all 67 "jump balls" to Maserati Marv this year out of the equation, including his 1200 yards and 14 touchdowns. This in itself is extremely unfair...I mean what would Joe Namath be without Don Maynard? And yes, I love obscure references.

Anyhow, McCord still completed 58% of his passes for 2000 yards with a 10/6 TD to INT ratio. Do you realize how much better that is than anything we had on campus last year? Any way you slice it he would be a HUUUGE upgrade over what has happened in Husker Nation the last 5-10 years.

Jeremy Pernell: No Portal Binge for Nebraska This Offseason (msn.com)
Between Jeff Sims, Heinrich Haarberg and Chubba Purdy, Nebraska completed only 52% of its passes and threw for just 136 yards per game while averaging a measly 6.2 yards per pass attempt, which ranked 115th nationally. The Huskers threw for 10 touchdowns compared to 16 interceptions.

Sims won't be at Nebraska next year and Haarberg is too limited as a passer to ever expect him to be a viable option as a starter. You'd like to keep Purdy in some capacity, but there's no way you're sacrificing the chance to bring in competition even if you are worried it scares him off.

Ideally, the staff brings in two guys. They need to bring in a proven upperclassman who can stabilize the position for a year or two. Some of the names we know the program has made contact with are Will Howard (Kansas State), Kyle McCord (Ohio State) and Blake Shapen (Baylor).

Any of those three would be gigantic upgrades and would fit the criteria I laid out. Howard would probably be a fourth-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. McCord is a former five-star recruit who has played in 24 games with 13 starts for the Buckeyes. Shapen was honorable-mention All-Big 12 in 2022 and played well this season while missing time due to injuries.

You are in luck. They are meeting with him today. Doesn't mean he will come just that they are meeting with him.

He'd be great but he's going to where he can play for a MNC and make the most NIL money. That ain't Lincoln (not yet anyway).

OSU and WSU got screwed by the B12 and the B10. I hope they are successful in preserving the Pac xx and wish them success

As a central Ohio resident, Satterfield should be fired on the spot for courting Kyle McCord. If Rhule in behind this, he should be fired as well. McCord sucks.

And before anyone on this site defends McCord, I've lived it every Saturday all year long. I've watched more of his crappy QB play than any ten of you and he isn't even remotely the answer.
What makes you think you watched them more than anyone else on here? They were on our tvs every Saturday just the same as they were on yours.

To be fair, I haven’t seen one snap of McCord’s (although I also don’t have an opinion if we should pursue him).

Ohio watched him more than I did. I watched ND and Michigan games. I would describe McCord as serviceable. Although he made 1 huge mistake vs Michigan and then had to put it up for grabs late trying pull off 4th quarter antics. He's better than anyone we have - but I honest think we need a QB that can make plays with their legs for the offense to work next season. He's not that.

I think the NIL money is there if it's a big-time player, like Ward. We saw the money come out with Raiola. I think NU also offers him an easier path to increasing draft stock then an instant contender. Look at Bo Nix and Caleb Williams. Most thought they were contenders this year and by not making the playoff they have not improved their stock and maybe even took a slight hit. If he comes here and gets 9 wins it would really move him up just look at Sheduer and he only got 4 wins. It's obviously just my opinion, but I think the easier road is a team towards the bottom that could easily get over the hump.

I'd like to thank the board for, so far, not posting a tweet "confirming" McCord to NU, as the account in question labels itself as "parody", but has no idea what that word means (parody twitter accounts usually make jokes, like, "Aaron Rodgers Consumes 4 Kilos of Datura stramonium, Accidentally Enters Portal and Commits to Nebraska".) Parody. It's an art.

Bo Nix is not a contender???? Could have fooled me. Shed Sanders is a product of daddy s BS. Caleb Williams plays for a team with no defense. Ward is the real deal no doubt. I have watched him deliver for two years, he is the bomb and most underrated QB available. I would still like to see our guys improve.

I wonder what skillset Matt really wants…….a RPO (run-pass-option qb), or a pro (pro style pocket passer) or my favorite, a PRO qb (pass-run-option)? The latter is much like the first with the exception that when he drops back to pass that is what his, and second, preference is. He can scramble, and tuck and run occasionally, but his primary objective is to hand the ball off and pass when needed.

We’ve had all three in recent years, but none have had the command we’ve needed. i’ll be interested to see what Matt can get, and does get

The Huskers could use a game manager! I wouldn`t count Purdy out, he showed up against Iowa just didn`t finish it. Missed field goals?
