Ok...so what are you looking at this Saturday? Give us one thing on offense, one thing on Defense, one thing on ST

1. Offense: I am looking at the offensive line. I want to see them come out early and punch someone in the face.

2. Defense: I am looking at Freedom: I want to see him in the back field all day.

3. ST: I am looking at DPE. I want to see him back to his freshman self.

This might sound completely simplistic but I am looking for 4 quarters of consistent play - not even great play - just tough, "wanting to be there" play. Seems like in the past, when the opponent would smack NU in the face, things just imploded.

Offense - Nice mix of run/pass. Hitting open receivers 5 - 10 yards down field, not always looking for the 50 yard down the sideline bomb. Consistent protection of the QB. Consistent RB play - enough to keep the defense honest.

Defense - I am looking for good secondary play. Would be awesome if the corners didn't always need help so blitzing would be at a high. Looking for a strong run stopping team to make the opponent one dimensional. I am not going to be naive and do realize there will be break downs and confusion at time because of the 3-4 switch.

ST - Man it would be nice to be dominant here - good punt returns, kick off returns, average to good punting - NOT giving up the same though to the opponent (stating the obvious here).

1. Offense: I want to see how sharp Lee can throw it. I want to see throws on a rope, some threaded into tight windows. All delivered where there can be a catch and run.

2. Defense: Tenacity. We've been lacking it on D for years.

3. Special Teams: Excitement. I don't want to feel like it's simply a change of possession. I want to feel like it makes a difference.

Offense - OL. Period. The offense will only go as far as the OL allows. If they don't provide protection to get the pass off or don't open holes for the RBs, it will be a long year for the offense.

Defense - Smallz said tenacity. I think that is good word. I agree that it has been far too long that are defense has been soft. I want to see an attacking defense. Don't let the opposing QB get comfortable. Make him throw it before he wants to or get the sack.

Special Teams - I would like to see somebody on the punt return team actually block somebody for DPE or Tyjon or whomever is back returning punts. We can't let 7 of the opposing players run free down the field to T off on our returners.

I guess "looking at" and "looking for" to me are different, in general I'll be looking AT the new schemes and players, trying to teach myself what we got and who we got, re-learing numbers/names etc, but looking FOR, in the first game i just want to see urgency, pride, focus, and Big Red lay down a beating. I'm just glad the season is HERE. GBR!

I am going to be looking at Memorial Stadium.....From the inside of the press box!!!!!! Hell yeah baby looking forward to this. I have set almost everywhere in the stadium except the press box and thanks to my boss at the radio station I do games for I get to go. Its my youngest sons birthday and he is going with me. I am so freaking pumped. Bad thing is we cant cheer, clap loudly or yell. But oh well as a pxp guy its always been a dream to do a game for the HUSKERS. Wont be doing the game but will be in the press box so close to a dream come true. Maybe its just a first time so I can see what its all about and fate is teasing me right now.....ah a guy can dream right.

Offense- An identity. Something we haven't had with Langsdorf yet. A go to play. A play to set up another play. etc etc
Defense- A pass Rush, able to stop the run.
Special Teams- Lightborn to be consistent, Brown-Groza winner

I expect to see Carlos Davis dominate and cause havoc against an inexperienced OL.
I want to see Stoltenberg double teamed every down. That shows he is doing his job and allowing someone else to roam free.
I expect to see NU's CB's get beat on occasion, but I want to see them play aggressively and make some big plays too.
I expect to see Hoppes have a big day, at least compared to the last several years for NU's tight ends.
More than anything I expect to see a conservative game plan on both sides of the ball and a win.

Offense--I really want to see the O-line dominate the game--run blocking and pass blocking--All 5 of these guys have started multiple games--No excuses

Defense--Run to the ball--Playing defense in football is like rebounding in basketball--whoever wants it more usually wins

ST---If our STs were just average it would be several steps up from the dumpster fire we watched last year--but what I want to see is solid play--no breakdowns and force at least 1 turnover/blocked kick/big play

I am excited about this year--the guys that really didn't want to be here are gone and MR has put together a really good staff of recruiters and teachers (better late than never). Time to nut up or shut-up

GBR

Offense. The OL. This is make or break. If they haven't significantly improved from the past 2 years, then Cav needs to go.
Defense: Tough, tenacious, stingy, ball hawking D. Lead the country in scoring defense.
STs- Make into a game changer.

Offense: O-Line. Duh.

Defense: Outside linebackers, particularly how much of a pass rush they can generate.

Special Teams: The return of freshman DPE returning punts.

Arkansas State, no offense to their fans, is a team Nebraska should beat handily and easily.

I want to see Nebraska's OL dominating the line of scrimmage. There is no reason why NU shouldn't be able to put up at least 3 bills rushing the ball against this team. If we struggle to run the ball against this team, it could be a very, VERY long season.

Defensively, no big plays should be given up, our players should look like they know what they're doing, like they've watched film, and noticed tendencies from last season.

Special teams, looking at you Caleb Lightbourn, time to warrant that scholarship.

I agree with you on the run, but I dont think we will run the ball enough times to get to 300 yards. I think we may be lucky if we run it enough times to get to 200.

Offense: I will focus on the tackles. It's the most suspect position on offense. They have to improve. We have more talent and depth on the interior than on the edge. Arky State has a good D line, so this will be a decent test for our O line.

Defense: I'd like to say the D line but an average D line will look good against this Arky State O line. We should abuse them today. So, I'll be more interested in the development of our young corners. Lee and Jackson need to be ready to play like veterans when we make the trip to the Duck pond. They don't have much time to grow up. These first two games are critical to their development.

Special Teams: I'm looking for the 'special' to be put back in special teams. Poorly coached in recent years, will the coaching change bear fruit? I'm not looking for individual talents. The playmakers are there. I'm looking for a well-coached group of 11 on all special teams groups. That would be an improvement over 2016.

GBR

Now that it's over, I'm not sure what I was looking at in game 1. I'd say it was the weirdest season opener I've seen, but that's actually not 100% true, Wyoming 2013 didn't look pretty either
