We wont have Jimmy to kick around

When a legend leaves, and Harbaugh is certainly a legend -- a Michigan man and an all-time coach -- universities do two things: they either upgrade somebody on the staff, or they find someone who had a connection to the legend. That will work using the inertia -- the legend Saban, Harbaugh created -- it will work for about a year and a half, but then you will see cracks, because proximity to genius and proximity to greatness does not equal genius or greatness.
How many Belichick assistants have hit? The answer is NONE. I could give you 25 examples of this. My childhood -- Don James to Jim Lambright [Washington]. Lambright was considered the best defensive coordinator in college football. Steve Spurrier to Ron Zook, Tom Osbourne to Frank Solich, Barry Switzer to Gary Gibbs... Great programs, a familiar face, it looks like it works, and then it doesn't...

Colin Cowherd Warns Michigan Football Against Hiring Sherrone Moore (msn.com)

Jim Harbaugh departed the Michigan football program on a high note after winning the national championship. And the search for a new head coach didn't take very long.

Despite national pundits assuming there would be some outside search, the Wolverines looked inside the program. After going 4-0 as an interim head coach while Harbaugh was suspended due to two separate NCAA investigations, offensive coordinator Sherrone Moore was the obvious choice to lead the program. Groomed by Harbaugh to take over, Moore keeps stability within the program, and continues the trajectory of the maize and blue with Harbaugh gone to the NFL.

Michigan football officially hires new head coach (msn.com)
The safe bet for the Wolverines was to keep the hire inhouse because of the 2 pending NCAA investigations. No name coach was going to touch this program with very likely damaging penalties being handed down. Hiring Moore they can pay him far less than Harbaugh and they can fire him for far less in 3 years when their program has fallen several notches down and the Ncaa sanctions are gone or minimal at that point.

Saban had that automatic escalator clause in his contract with Alabama that ensured he was the highest paid college football coach. Would have got a big fat raise if Jimmy stays at Michigan (and Saban was not retired.....lol)
