Tush-Push overrated?

Today while watching Iowa-Minny game, there were a number of tush-push plays. Minny tried it on their own 1/2 ft line on a 2nd and 11 play. I think they got pushed back closer to their goal line. Later in the game Minny was trying to score on Iowa 1 ft line using the “push”. It failed, luckily Minny scored several plays later on an off tackle run.

Notice the photo, there are 22 players piled up in an area about the size of a porta-potty. Maybe a charging Black Rhino might have a chance to break through that mass of humanity. I may be wrong, but I see this formation fail more than it succeeds. Every time I see our Huskers run this, I never feel real confident. You would think that an enterprising OC could come up with a quick slant to TE off this formation, or something similar.

There are nuisances to make it work. #1 - you need a bigger QB that can drive for those few extra feet. The center and guards have to fire out effectively to clear enough space the QB and those pushing him get upfield. It is a QB sneak - but takes advantage of the current rules that allow the pile to be pushed by the offense until the whistle is blown. I think the Eagles used some reads at the line on whether to go left or right of the center based on how the D lined up - but the main reason it worked was Hurts.

It's all about the push from behind. Most teams that do it are using linemen (offensive or defensive) or other big bodies in the backfield behind the QB, and some are using a tight end or running back rather than their actual QB. As a COF (Certified Old Toot) I don't much care for it, but you can't blame them if it works.

As a credentialed Acronymian Master, how does Certifed Old Toot translate to "COF?"

Or is "toot" a substitute for a far more nefarious word that may get you a lifetime ban?

I don't care for it either. On the brink of COT. (What age is required ?)

I am always curious what is going to be the counter from the defense? This is usually what happens for time.

One issue that the defense calls out is the feeling that the O jumps occasionally or is lined up offside. D sometimes lines up offside too.
