Troy Dannen rumblings

Don't have any details but there were reportedly rumblings over the last few weeks concerning Dannen. Sounds like he may have ruffled some feathers, I truly don't know for certain. No idea why you would willingly leave Nebraska for ISU. Will see if the smoke dissipates...

From what Moos said in his book, you have a plethora of bosses at NU, some you don't know, who will periodically micromanage you at their whim. The politics of UNL administration could test the patience of Ghandi.

It's natural for Iowa State to show interest given Dannen's background. It's also natural for any savvy professional to use that interest to better his current situation.

But that said, given the state of Husker athletics and the rise of the football program, that's a serious red flag in Dannen does leave.

Seems like a step down if it is ISU. But, if he's not happy with how things operate in Lincoln (that have largely led to the Football program being a turd) I get why he might jump given a chance.

I guess that standard denial actually confirms he is interested through his people to their people. With all the success of Husker Athletics as a whole I can't imagine a person wanting to leave for Iowa State.

When I read the heading in the OP, the first thing that came to my mind was that he was having gastro intestinal problems.

Reading through the posts, it appears that dealing with toooo many “bossses” is making him sick to his stomach.

I don't want to get the cart before the horse. But looking back, we got lucky when Trev bolted because we had a good man as interim President and an off-season head football coach to pull the proverbial rabbit out of the hat.

Not to sound all gloom and doom, but frankly, it would be a disastrous development if we (once again) lost a highly competent AD (no matter what you think of him) at the very moment the football program is finally turning itself around.

But if this happens, it wouldn't impact Coach Rhule and our developing football program, RIGHT?

:banghead:

Doc - it shouldn't impact Football - if they hire a competent AD replacement. My confidence they will is not super high but if they have the same criteria used to higher Dannen.....maybe we'll be OK??

I hate to be a Debbie Downer, but past experience tells me: Don't count on it.

The optimistic side of me is saying maybe this whole "Iowa State flirtation" is similar to what Osborne did in looking at Colorado back-in-the-day. Troy's power play is likely more internal than external than TO's was. But maybe this is his way of telling his "bosses" to STFU.

My take - relative to athletics - is that when Bobfather and T.O. served as AD it was difficult for those disparate voices to gain traction because the credibility and clout of those 2 as MNC winners prevented it. No other ADs since Bobfather has had insulation from being pushed multiple directions from "the powers that be". Bob's AD office carried momentum for a few years too - given how well things were set up. Obviously the increased financial needs of athletics gives those voices a larger desire to push things the direction they want. If we had one key benefactor like Phil Knight - I think things would be easier - but we don't. We also would have super ugly uniforms.

I do not deny there is a political angle to being Nebraska's AD. As Nebraska's AD, you need to have superior "soft skills", be able to schmooze the donors to keep those $$$s rolling in. However, there should come a point where you, as AD, tell the donors they do not run the AD Department, you do. It's called leadership and sometimes as a leader you need to "ruffle some feathers".

Trev didn't even have the clout to do that one. If he doesn't, nobody will, minus Dr. Tom.
