Trap games in our favour this year

DocFum and I discussed "trap" games in one of the other threads. I started doing some investigatements and I believe I found our first win over a Top 10 (or higher) team this year because of entrapment.

On October 3rd Indiana is going to the east coast to play at Rutgers. On October 10 they are hitting the road a second consecutive week to face the Men of Corn in Lincoln. According to many experts this in itself defines a "trap" game, being on the road a second consecutive week in the difficult and much traveled B1G. Now, guess who Indiana plays the following week, October 17, at home? None other than THE Ohio State. If ever Indiana will be looking past an opponent, it will be Nebraska on the 10th.

I'm just gonna say it right now. Nebraska upsets a flat Indiana squad on October the 10th in the year Twenty-twenty six.

BELIEVE IT!

Holy Moley, Hunch. I'm amazed by your incredible entrapment investigatements!!! You sold me!!!

Once upon a time, Memorial Stadium was universally recognized as one of the toughest place in the country to win as a road team. If the fans bring their A+ game (a reliable conclusion), a young--but overly confident--Indiana squad who won last year at Oregon and Penn State before beating Ohio State and making their playoff run might be a tad bit surprised by what they find waiting for them in Lincoln.

This thread has been pluralisized. Trap "games"...
Ohio State doesn't exactly have a cake walk before meeting the Huskers this year either.

They finish with back-to-back road games at Indiana and USC, then home with Oregon, home with NW, back on the road to Lincoln, then the rivalry with Michigan. That could be a good spot as well.

Iowa has the cake walk schedule that we had last year. No Oregon or Indiana on their schedule, and they have Ohio State at home.

Nebraska may turn out to be their toughest game after that Oct 3 matchup with OSU.

They finish the season with

Washington
Minnesota
Wisconsin
NW
Purdue
Illinois
Nebraska

There are no trap games...you just come out determined to BE more than the other team, and then play to that goal until the clock hits 0:00.

I disagree, GIJoe. Human nature is human nature---especially when we're taking about 18-22 year old men.

But to your point, a 'Trap' game doesn't mean you're going to lose it. It just means you'd better be extra ready to gut one out. The better the athletic ability, the more mature the team, the better changes are that the team can overcome those games earmarked (for a number of reasons) as Trap Games.

An example that comes to mind was our 1983 "Scoring Explosion" Team that lost a Natty on a failed 2-point conversion. That team was touted during the season as having The Best Offense in the history of CFB. But they had back-to-back road games in October and escaped Stillwater, OK with a 14-10 win. It happens.

I just like reading the words "flat Indiana squad". Like they're all squished. Saw that happen to Wile E. Coyote. It was so funny.

"flat Indiana squad"...he-he...

I guess Rudy got it wrong.

My "Caveat" is my time as a Drill Dergeant. Despite what some people might think, there ARE people that have no business joining the military....as of Day 1...BUT, as of Day 60 or so...at least maybe their parents can see a day and night difference when they see their son(s) walk across that graduation stage.

So I have firsthand knowledge of what you can, and cannot achieve...despite "talent", or lack thereof.

Things that produce trap games
1.) Coming off an emotional game against a tough opponent.
2.) Having an upcoming game against a tough rival.
3.) Back to back road games, especially on a short week. This can be an early Saturday game that followed a late Saturday game involving a lot of travel. Friday road games can be especially difficult.:(

Rhule has been terrible at beating ranked team across his career. Will that be fixed this season? I have my doubts to be sure but there are at least 8 wins possible if the perceived improvements since last season pan out.

Sure sounds like the oline is transformed with transfers and new oline coach from the early observations. Frankly if you have an oline you can lean on things get much easier. Less leaning on special teams and less leaning on the D.

No drinking the kool aid just yet but talk of a slobberknocker oline does tend to get me excited.

Agree Jimbo. Getting the OL back to "The Pipeline" standard is the goal. I do think, regardless of the opponent, we're going to be able to run the ball. Maybe that's buying into the Geep Wade hype before his guys prove anything on the field, but I really like the OL players we acquired from the Portal and I really like the high school prospects we've recruited. I think the future for the OL, the sky is the limit.

Tom Osborne's HOF career would bolster that opinion!

In a nutshell, what I've seen develop with our OL coaching and recruiting (portal & HS) are what give me a strong sense that Year 4 isn't going to be 'the same ol' same old.'

While every HC has got to be true to himself and his philosophy, it has always boggled my mind how in the hell Nebraska's Powers-that-Be turned their backs on what had been successful at Nebraska for decades. That rant said, it's gratifying to see Rhule embrace a renewed program emphasis on the OL.

While I agree with you that as fans we don't want to get ahead of ourselves----the internal buzz I've heard surrounding Wade has been, 'damn, that guy is GOOD.'

We'll find out soon.
