The Shite that CFB Has Become

Once the NCAA passed its new 'five year rule,' players who could have had a fifth year this year sued saying if this rule had gone into effect earlier, they'd have chosen to stay in college if they'd been presented with this option earlier.

Surprise, surprise, judges ruled in the players' behalf. So the good news it's a one time only thing.

Since Tommie Frazier had like half of his junior season cut short, maybe he could come back and play QB for 1 season? I mean if we're allowing players in the NFL to come back to college, why not players who missed seasons due to injury? It's literally the same argument.

At issue was when the new rule went into effect.

The four year seniors successfully argued the case that they weren't given the opportunity to stay in college and complete a fifth year under the NCAA's new rules.

In their defense, the NCAA SHOULD have announced their new rule right after the 2025 regular season wrapped up (or else wait until after the 2026 regular season.) Their timing was, in retrospect, really stupid.

Do I like it? Not really. So don't shoot the messenger. :)

"Allowing that to occur will blur the line between college and professional sports"

You mean those amateur college athletes who are making millions of dollars now?

Yea....line already blurred.
Good one, Nebraska99!

I had a similar reaction a couple days ago to this quote from Oregon's Dan Lanning: "You're a professional now, once you declare for the draft. So to let any of those players come back, fair or unfair to them, is unfair to the sport."

It begs the question: What's today's definition of being a "professional"??!?

I understand the stupidity that has happened over the last few years. The NCAA took zero leadership in moving us forward into this new phase of college athletics. They wanted to stay the same when the landscape was changing. They got swallowed up by the courts. The 5 for 5 was a good start, but they were stupid and did not invite the 5th-year people back. Stupid on them. I think this can all level out, but it needs great leadership and rational minds. The problem? Not sure if either of these exists at the D1 level.
