Targeting

Maybe we should adopt the card rules from soccer or the five foul threshold from basketball. Technical fouls even. But ejecting only defenders is grossly an exaggeration.

Simple two card system is maybe too limited. The idea is to make it a team penalty that migrates to an individual penalty. How about 3 colors: green, yellow, red. Green card is used to warn a player to behave after an aggressive or a non-deliberate violent act, and there is no immediate punishment except leaving the field for the next immediate play AND having to don a green jersey for the rest of the game. A yellow card is for a second green card violation by the same player and they are lost for the remaining quarter. Yellow cards would also be instant for major penalties by a player. Make the yellow card offenders don a yellow jersey for the rest of the game. And the red cards would be instant ejections with a dead ball field goal try by the opponent from the 40. Any subsequent red card leads to a field goal by the opponent from 10 yards closer.

But anything other than the current system.

I hope this is a joke.

As usual, in attempt to correct a problem they've swung the pendulum too far the other way.

As a Defense guy of course I hate the whole ejection rule "Stuff Happens" on the field during the heat of the moment it's part of the game, all of us who gave so much to the game know full well that at any moment one wrong lean or your legs in the turf and someone hits or lands on you and your knee is shredded like string cheese.....
No I don't wanna get some guys neck broke and cripple him for life but....we know the risks involved.....let us play.
I would feel horrible if I ever hurt someone permanently on the field but it's as much a part of the game as pads and mouthpieces are....it happens no matter how hard others try to prevent it.
Do I think that the calls should have been made by the ref's.... thankfully that's not my job.....sure I think we got hosed a bit on the one call but the other was totally avoidable and never should have taken place especially by an upper classmen that's just my opinion....no it didn't look intentionally done but it was kinda silly and now has him sitting out the first half of a very important divisional game.
That's what bothers me the most....as if kicking the guy off the field weren't bad enough you hold him out of half the next game ?......this is where I personally take issue with the ruling.......but it is what it is.....no obscure phone calls from the commissioner to the refs.......no pre determined set of orders to penalize us more than Ohio St......that's ludicrous....Jeez ...you think those butt scrunching mealy mouths have that much moxy to be that stupid....what if they got caught doing it......the fallout from such actions would be huge and cost the B10 leadership dearly.....so no I don't see any conspiracy theory either.....it's just what it is.....we can't cry about it or we look like a bunch of whiney cry babies.....and that's the last image we need right now.....my thought is shut up and move on.....take our lumps and make dead certain we clean up what we can and play yellow hanky free.....if your playing fair and it's obvious on every camera angle there was no foul....let the television watching public court decide.....that's their area.....not ours....we have to put our heads down drown out the noise and move on.....time waits for no one and this is our time to make a statement...we really need to throttle Wisconsin preferably with their Starting QB.....otherwise people will say we only beat them cause he was out with Covid...and we don't need that hanging over our heads either....so you all debate a dead issue.....its done and over and we ain't gonna change a thing by complaining about it....bring on Wisconsin and hope for a damp foggy still night in Memorial Stadium.....trust me the Ghosts of victory's past will show up and make the Badgers wished they had stayed in their holes.

Here's a question--if the Wisconsin game is cancelled, do they have to sit out the first half of the NW game?

If so, they are missing a game and a 1/2 of an 8 game schedule--seems severe

If there is an asterick on Saturday's win its about some selfish wedding party not because Nebraska was wrong for playing.

We should get our guys back for Northwestern since the WI game being cancelled was not our doing. Not saying we WILL - just that it would be the prudent thing for the B1G to do. Right...OK so we know that won't happen.

Exactly. I don't think the rule states they are suspended for the next played game, just the next game.
"If the foul occurs in the second half or overtime of a game, the player is ejected for the remainder of the game and the first half of the next contest."
The next game is a no contest. The next game is now over. Reinstate them you sons of bitches.

Well you heard Dave Revsin plain and clear.....yes they do have to sit the first half of the Northwestern Game.....I know if I had anything to do with it I would be asking since the Wisconsin game , the one they were to sit for got cancelled by Wisconsin.....why are our players being punished further when the cancellation was not any of our doing. ??????
I mean c'mon man fair is fair but that's just ludicrous.....that is just like making them sit for a game and a half......and it's bad enough were getting hosed by the Badgers but.....sheesh this is just wrong....so wrong.

Agreed Doc. From the dumba$$ targeting calls, to the decision making of the Big10 "leadership" surrounding playing football, it's a sh!tshow right now......

I know targeting was the most obvious screw job in that last game. We got jobbed by the swallowed whistles when the scoring gap opened up. Frost has matured by not going ballistic like Pelini but you could see him fuming. Blatant pick plays, blockers tackling would-be playmakers from behind, holding downfield that allows the QB to get the edge. That was the bigger issue last week. After watching it more critically, the Huskers were fully capable of keeping in that game.

Tanks man.....tanks alot.....I try my best to keep it slightly entertaining but still make my point.
A lot on here hate the stuff I post and That's just fine with me.....the ones who do like what I have to say are generally Perdy heads up friendly real life Husker Fans....we had a big influx of new posters here this past year or so and I don't know where they came from....maybe planet rolly-wood lol.....it took some doing to keep my big mouth shut a time or 2 but the Admin here is really good at putting the clamps on those who caused too much problem....don't get me wrong I love all the newbies....they bring some off the hook comments and posts...and some are down right just a hoot period.....so in the end it's all good.
Thanks for the thought.

Interpretation of the rule varies from conference to conference but Im willing to bet there are more calls against the underdogs than the conference leaders. I believe there should be a central location that reviews every targeting call so that it levels the playing field and does away with homerisms and favoritisms. The rule is not being applied equally.

Coach Osborne lobbied hard for an independent group to go to with such complaints several times in his tenure as Head Coach and Athletic Director....of course he was shot down before he could ever get off the Deck by the Conference Bigs and the NCAA.....
His idea was say your in the old Big 8 and we're playing say for instance a team from the Big 10 then only a group from outside both Conferences would be allowed to review calls that had MAJOR IMPACT on game....like happened to us vs Penn St. Or just the other day Penn St. vs Indiana.....only that type call that had the end result of one team winning the game could be reviewed....no simple holding calls, offside, illegal formation etc.....but the NCAA said something to the effect of it wouldn't be prudent to reverse decisions on the field. But later did the whole Instant review and all that so in the end really it's all in the hands of 1 guy...the review official in the booth.....but there also lay trouble....what if the guy or gal had no connection to the winning team but just didn't like the Coach of the loosing team, what if secretly that review official was a fan of the winning team....too many human variables could be called into question....see my point....?
So in the end it all boils down to how lucky or unlucky you are on that day.....and that's sad.
