We're Nebraska; we don't need gimmicks;

Sure we do. All of this kind of show isn't for us Neanderthals, it's for the students and the many recruits that are visiting. Besides, black is a slimming color for clothing. Don't want our linemen to look "Husky". (Get it?) lol

I'm not much of a fan of the big productions: special unis, special lighting and graphics and all the other BS. We're Nebraska; we don't need gimmicks
I guess these things depend on a person's point of view. You and I remember 'the old days' when Husker football didn't need "all that BS."

But when I think back to my first Husker football game as a teenager, I remember thinking the whole doggone thing was a huge production beyond anything I'd ever witnessed before.

I'd never seen such a big stadium filled to capacity with everybody wearing bright red and white and carrying red balloons (Note: this was before fans wearing their team's colors to the game became 'a CFB thing.' FYI to our younger fans: our original "Sea of Red" started that trend.) There was also the marching band and all the crowd noise too.

Last season I was like you, KR. I groused and rolled my eyes about our so-called "Blackout" game thinking it would go nowhere beyond the student section. But even this Old Home Game Veteran found himself blown away by the unique atmosphere that was created that night. Okay, admittedly, it would've been even cooler if Dylan hadn't gotten hurt and we ended up winning the game.

My point is simply that this 'production' stuff has changed over the years and it is designed to make an already-cool event more fun and memorable.

Our modern-day productions (now including flyovers, HuskerVision, etc.) might not have the same emotional impact on me as the simpler things did back when I was a Boy Scout usher. But I'm betting Saturday's Blackout game will become a life-long memory for a whole bunch of the young people who'll be attending .
