Super Official Huskers "How about that volleyball team!" vs Illini Game Week Thread.

After last week's game I lost faith in Rhule.
I'm giving him one more last chance. I'll join Doc as he circles the wagons and we try to save the season.
There are only two scenarios I can imagine that will keep the heat level in the offseason to a non critical level.
1. Win out. Finish the season 9-3. After that a bowl game will not be a factor.
2. Finish the season 8-4 with a win over Iowa and then win the bowl game ending up 9-4.

I'm with RSJ and Doc. We have to circle the wagons around Rhule right now. The buyout is horrendously steep number one. Number two, he might just make the necessary changes to turn this season around. If that happens, I predict that all nay saying will cease and desist, at least until next year's season begins.:yay:

Ah yes, we eternal optimistic pessimistic Nebraska fans. OK, just one more chance...just one more chance this one time.
I put out my flag this morning after threatening to burn it last week. Probably didn't because it was a gift. I put my Nebraska polo on and had someone already say "I thought you were done with them." That was a few days ago. Pessimistic all week. Optimistic this morning. Always pick Nebraska to win. Still think they could get blown out but not if the D does what the defense does. But this time the coaches understand they need to run the ball. But knowing that they know that the Illinois coaches know that so they'll stack the line so DH will have no choice but to throw 50 times against a terrible pass defense.
It's an effing disease.
GBR!

The thing we learned with BC, Riley and Frost is your record is who you are. Rhule is matching Riley's results with much better PR....that's who he is. A .500 coach that can't win games against equal or better opponents. That's not going to cut it.
Now - I realize the massive buyout probably locks up Rhule through 2027 - and longer if they want to get that number manageable. That's why everyone they can fire more easily - like Dannen - should assume they won't be here past this season. As far as coaches - I don't see anyway Dana is OC next season. If Rhule feels he doesn't have better options on staff for the next 4 games.....so be it. But he can't look at the overall results on offense since Dana has been OC and say that is good enough. I assume ST and some other changes on offense are needed. Keep Geep - otherwise Rhule can fire everyone else. I've seen enough to know they ain't got it. WRs have regressed from last season.....

Agree with all of this, and I have one more concern. Will Aurich be here next year? Can you imagine having your defense performing the way his is and the HC steps to the podium and speaks at length how the Blackshirts let him down because they lost the turnover battle? Seriously, WTAF? Aurich will be a hot commodity after the season. Wouldn't surprise me a bit if he was lured away by a team and coach that will appreciate the job he has done.

For the first time in MANY years I did NOT put my flag out. I did NOT drink my morning coffee from the sacred Husker cup, and I will NOT be wearing a red Husker shirt or the black Husker shirt my wife bought me at the start of the season. I'll watch. and maybe if the coaches can show me they can do right by this team and make me feel that this program is worthy of my simple little rituals I will reinstate them. Until then...nope.

I'm no NorthwoodHusker. I'm as disappointed and frustrated as anyone here. The only difference is I'm not going to go online and rant about firing the head coach after losing three close games that --- Heeeeellloooo, EVERYBODY here said before the season we were likely to lose. The same fans who have 'given up on Rhule' and want another complete do-over are the same folks who predicted we'd be lucky to win seven games this year.

I might add that a number of posters (me among them) said that how we play was more important this season that our W/L record.

Am I Mister Sunshine-pumper right now? Hell no. But I prefer to wait to see how this season plays out before writing a coaching staff's obituary. The reason we're all pissed is because this team showed some promise, especially by the way the defense was playing and Colandrea was performing at QB.

I don't think it's asking too much as a fan to give the team its remaining four games before writing them off.

I am one of the poster who said anything less than 8 wins is a bad season. And for those that said these past 3 games were sure losses in the preseason, I will say that neither Oregon or Washington were near as good as most thought them to be in the preseason so that part of your argument is mute. Washington is not a good football team and we should have won that game going away. There is honestly NO reason we shouldn't win out. OSU is NO WHERE near the team they are with Sayin as QB. And Iowa is just Iowa. We need to beat them this year.
I will say again anything less than 8 wins will make this a bad season and if by some weird stupid chance we lose the rest of our games Rhule should not be retained no matter what the buyout is.

Doc, I don't think you're in sunshine-pumper mode. I think you are optimistic about the possibility Rhule can turn the season around. I started the week with zero optimism, now I'm joining you, jd, and Justino in cheering on the Huskers tonight looking for positives. The Chatbox will be divided tonight, with every weak play noted as a sign the program is doomed and others hoping for a victory, ugly or pretty. Tonight is, once again, the most important game of the season. Can we turn around and go forward? I hope so.
By the way, if anyone decides to be optimistic about tonight's game, I personally will give you my OK.

I remember the days when Husker fans bitched about not winning by enough.
Those were the days.
I'm down with this crew and I think they will do well tonight and the rest of the way.

We have a championship level defense and Rhule and Dana are dribbling down their legs wasting this great defense.

The 1st step is win the dang game. Do that and folks will start coming around but lose yet another one in the 4th quarter like the last 3 and Husker fans are gonna revolt. I hope we win but until MR gets his head out off the sand in the 4th quarter and stop panicking, we won't win another game this year.
