Speculation on Dylan’s Future

My observations.

I think Dylan has slimmed down some and did actually look a little more mobile. He was accurate and had command of the offense. His downfall while in Lincoln was Tio Donny as Oline coach. I'm still glad we now have AC. He's an additional weapon with his feet and can make our average Oline look much better with his elusiveness.

Obviously wasn’t the solution for us the last two years but he wasn’t our problem either. His family was a hassle. I’m sure he will be a load to handle we go to Eugene. I hope our D is better than USC. Their front looked very formidable tonight
I'll go out on a limb and say our D is much better than USC. Aurich is making me a believer.

I want to acknowledge that, cautiously, I am in full agreement with you. It is still probably the PTSD talking, but I keep wondering about when the collapse is coming. Like, I really WANT to believe in Aurich and this defense, but we've seen this movie before.

That's why I went into this season with zero expectations. It's working well so far!!!

I went into the season expecting 6-6 and gawd I don't want to jinx it, but Nebraska just might get 8 or 9 wins. The key to 8 or 9 wins are the games versus Maryland, Washington, Illinois, and Rutgers. Win those and boom, there's 8. "Steal" a win versus Indiana or Oregon and there is W number 9.

Caveat: 6-6 is still possible, but with the way the defense is playing, I want to think we can get to that 8 or 9 win mark.

I also want to point out that after we play Indiana, we have 6 remaining regular season games and four of them are on the road.

Our D has the right attitude they want to shut everybody down completely. They are a work in progress but it's improving. They like playing with each other. Gaining confidence every game. Attitude is 90% of Defense according to a coach I once knew

Fun fact: The Blackshirts had the best performance against a B1G opponent since holding Iowa to 10 points in 2024.

Still have to keep it real. Our last four opponents neither had strong or elite defenses or offenses. Ohio State, Indiana, Oregon and yes even Iowa either have a great offense or defense or both, all better than what we have seen so far. Don’t sleep on Illinois, BB loves to beat Nebraska and they have us there on a Friday night no less. Washington is better than any team we have faced so far but we have them at home on Halloween. The only one I feel more optimistic about is Maryland, but their QB gave us fits last year.

We have to be almost absolutely perfect in turnovers (I’m shocked at how well we have done here). We have to be perfect in penalties (I’m shocked that we continue to pile them up). Just do what we do, and do it well, GBR.

Yup, yup and yup. That is why I want to get these next 2 wins. Our schedule looks like a "Murderer's Row" to me. Get bowl qualified and then play like the dickens to continue winning but get that sixth win as soon as possible.

The Scene: The BHF fan locker room.

We listen in as Coach Righteous Red gives the gang his "after four games" pep talk...

Fumble looks up from his cellphone and notices that Coach RR and all his teammates are staring at him.

Doc: HEY, don't everybody look at me! I'm not getting a big head...yet!!!!

I agree about Uncle Donny. But the #1 'lesson to be learned' from the Raiola to Colandrea transition is that quarterbacking at Nebraska requires fast legs and a quick blinker.

If you ask me, THAT is part of our DNA as a Blueblood football program. You can see that at play throughout our storied history. Some of our Oldtimers still talk about Bob Devaney's first Husker QB, Dennis Claridge. Statue QBs -- be it a Tanner Lee or a Dylan Raiola -- are just not going to work at Nebraska, no matter how highly touted.

On the other hand, that does NOT mean we need "a running back who can throw" as former OC Tim Beck famously said. Watching Michigan this season with Bryce Underwood at QB is giving me serious Adrian Martinez PTSD vibes.

But we need a field general who can extend plays -- and drives -- with his legs. Throughout our history, that's been the hallmark of our best ones.

...and YES, I know that Jerry Tagge wasn't a speedster but he could--and did--run.

Can't speak for everyone but I don't really hold a grudge against Dylan. While he was here he was a great ambassador for Nebraska. Doing things showing up at all the sporting events, taking pics with countless fans, etc. There were his comments about Lincoln recently but I don't take those to heart. I think the main issue was his father's attempted influence on Rhule and the staff.

The season is early but I think the general consensus is we upgraded from Dylan with Colandrea. The measuring stick will not necessarily be if Nebraska has a better season than Oregon it will be if the fanbase feels like Nebraska finished better with Colandrea than we would have with Dylan still at the helm. I don't think anyone has said Dylan is not talented, he just needs to be put in the right system with the right supporting cast.

I liken the situation to a breakup, if in the end you feel you upgraded from the previous significant other than it is easier to move on.
