RIP Mrjfb

Horrible news but thank you for caring enough to investigate and share with us. It sounds like he made the most of his 60 years and left behind a great legacy of faith and love. Enjoy the view Jeff...

He was physically strong. Earlier in his life, he competed as a powerlifter, winning multiple championships and setting records. The trophies he won numbered so many that they overwhelmed the display space in his basement and many of them ended up in the attic. Jeff was also an avid mountain climber. Braving fatigue, lack of oxygen and danger of falling, he climbed mountains that were 14,000 feet or more a total of 52 times. He often stated that he felt closest to God while standing on the top of a mountain.

Here's hoping that we all take a moment and ask our significant others to take a moment, after we pass on, to let folks on here know that we've passed. This place is a second home to a lot of posters. I think loved ones would be amazed to read some of the tributes that are posted. It is comforting to hear how important your loved one has been, especially after they have passed.

So, please give your user id and password to your spouse, child, bff, etc for that eventuality.

As Mrjfb would have said - "The glass is only 54.37% full."
The value of sparring with Mrjfb after Husker games for 20 years is that I know exactly what his message would be. Wanna hear it?

"Cool your jets, people. Nebraska hasn't proven anything yet. I like the way we've played hard-nosed, physical football thus far, but let's not go overboard. There are a ton of things that need to be cleaned up, especially with penalties and special teams play. And look at our opponents: UTEP got beat this weekend and Colorado is NOT a good football team."

I challenge ANYBODY here to tell me I got it wrong. :)

BTW, have I mentioned I miss him?

Doc, I think you nailed exactly what he would say. And also, what he would say sounds pretty reasonable…. ;)

Reasonable???!? N-N-Now wait a minute here...!!!

In all seriousness, I'm a much more knowledgeable football fan today than I was back when Mrjfb and I began tangling with each other. As much as he frustrated me at times, he damn-well knew his football.

Mrjfb was particularly vocal about Mike Riley and Scott Frost. He believed if you want to play tough, physical football, you had to practice tough, physical football. Remember how often he preached hard-hitting practices, which included live tackling drills? He also believed that you needed a superior, no-nonsense S&C program if you wanted to compete at the highest levels. As I recall, he wasn't all-that-happy with Riley's or Frost's strength program.

The irony is that Matt Rhule's philosophy is an awfully lot like the one Mrjfb kept calling for, year after year. I can't help but believe Jeff is looking down and liking the physical football he's seeing from the Huskers this fall.

I remember him from the old scout board and from here as well. I recall him giving Doc grief with his counter points on about..well..anything husker related. He wasn't doing it in trolling fashion though - just expressing a his own view point. He'll be missed.

Condolences to his family.

Todd
