The only thing I have to say is if he has been doing it for so long and he can fix it then why hasn't he done so already? Your last three games your opponents were 50+ points and you only averaged 17? Must be the strain

Agreed. Some things are better left unsaid. That was a head scratcher. I understand if he sees potential in players that we don't, but he hasn't done a lot to lend credence to that particular comment.

I understand what you guys are saying but what did you really expect him to say. He wants to keep coaching and if he comes and says "we really stunk it up in our 3 years here and I just wasnt good enough to get the job done" who is going to hire him? He performance here is going to make it hard enough for him to get another P5 job let alone if he says something like that. He has to say hes the right guy so he can get another job.

I didn't expect him to make such an asinine comment. If he was commenting for a future job anyone who has watched any of the games knows they did not know how to fix the problems or they would have and been retained here.

IMHO there is nothing Riley could "say" at this point that would make another university go,"oh yeah, that makes sense, MR is a great coach and would do a great job here"

Actions...or in this case, lack thereof, speak louder than words. The on field product trumps by far anything MR could be trying to convince himself or other possible employers through spoken words.

The Oregon St. job is still open.

If I had any concerns about Riley it was his tendency to talk about himself. From day one, the announcement of his hire, it was I this and me that.

I have seen too much of that this week and not enough comment about his staff and players.

What you say makes a lot of sense, now that I think about it. He wants to coach. He might get the chance to do that, but unless Oregon St. says to him, "I can't quit you", I don't see anything in FBS, let alone in the P5.

Now, as far as the dismissal part from Oregon St.; have any documentation on that? I remember when he was hired, reading about how their AD wanted to talk to Riley about multiple things - Banker (getting rid of him) and the contract (how they needed to adjust it) but I didn't get the sense that he was on the chopping block- his seat starting to get warm, but not scorching hot.

No I dont. I believe I said it was rumored. I seem to remember someone on here saying he was supposed to have met with the AD with a possible dismissal but hey that was 3 years ago so......

I wonder if Mike Riley lost control the team. Was he too much of an aw shucks enjoy the ride guy and not making the players adhere to all the little things? Whether we like ti or not, championship coaches like Meyer and Saban are assholes. They demand perfection and if players don't deliver, he'll find someone who will.

If Saban thought not just benching Lee but kicking him off the team to make room for another player would make Alabama better, he'd do it in a second. Meyer is a little more loyal to certain players, but not much.

I've wondered about the same guys making the same poor decisions over and over and perhaps they just don't fear the wrath of the film room?

From what Moos said, it sounds like there were guys not doing their jobs when it came to the little things. It's like the broken windows theory in its essence. Disorder leaders to problems.

I don't think a coach has to be an a-hole to be successful. True, some are, but I don't think it is a requirement. In fact, I'd prefer that our coach is committed to the players as people first.

What I see in this right or wrong, the players may not have cared if they disappointed Riley this might say that they did not respect Riley resulting in Riley's loss of the team. Riley was not around long enough to fully build this relationship. The position coaches have to twist tails. Ultimately Riley had to command respect.

Don't get me wrong, I don't want an ******* for a coach, it's just a reality that some of the high end performers are pretty harsh.
