Other than The Game of the Century, did any Nebraska-Oklahoma games have nicknames associated with them? For example: The Kick Six, Bush Push, etc.

Thank you in advance.

While it may not have had an official name, I believe it was the '71 NU-OU game that was for the "Big Red" moniker. Whoever lost also lost the right to be called Big Red for a season, if memory serves me. Since it became the game of the century, not sure anyone really remembers that. I remember it because at the start of the season, I was living in Cyril OK and taking a lot of crap about being a Husker. Radio station was all abuzz about the Huskers not going to be able to use our chant anymore, blah, blah, blah. I moved back to Nebraska about 10 days before the game so missed out on the aftermath (as far as the Oklahoma radio station I listened to).

In the aftermath of the Huskers' 28-24 win over OU in 1982, it became known as the "Ding Dong, the Curse is Dead" game.

On OU's last 'do or die' drive of the game, DE Scott Strasburger intercepted the ball and ran it back to the OU 1-yard line and the crowd stormed the field.

As I recall, it was one of the first night games in Memorial Stadium. Temporary lights were brought in for the national TV broadcast.

Better dead than Sooner Red!

It was a pretty heated rivalry game during Bobfather's and TO's tenures. For good reason - best 2 football programs in the Big 8. But I never felt the utter dislike I have felt for sCUm, Texas and at times Mizzou and KSucks.

sCUm because of making Nebraska their designated rival - then being complete ass clowns about it.
Texas for destroying the Big 12 and essentially co-opting the other 10 teams to back them and screw over Nebraska. Plus - Texas fans are insufferable a-holes.
KSucks and Mizzou - the Mizzou was a trap game every year and played DIRTY under most of the coaches that ended up there - scumbag program. KSucks - a little success made their fans unbearable. I suspect it is better now that the success has been sustained for awhile. We don't play them so I don't know how things are now. No KSucks fans in southern MN where I live......lol

Broke down in Perry OK on the way back from Dallas on my honeymoon. What an utter craphole. Unfortunately it was a Sunday - so there was nothing - I mean NOTHING open. My wife still holds that against me. I didn't break the car!! The alternator gave up the ghost and snapped the accessory belt. Had to wait until Monday to get a new alternator for Stillwater because of course a friggin' FORD part was not available close to Perry. Paid through the ass for it too. Went home broke from that trip......lol. 3 year old car.....this type of stuff lead me to own and drive Toyotas and Hondas. Denso and Aisin parts don't break....well not very often anyway.

"Nebraska Beats Oklahoma 17-14!!" "Nebraska Beats Oklahoma 17-14!!" "Nebraska Beats Oklahoma 17-14!!"

That's how EVERY headline, for EVERY story, and EVERY top line, for EVERY classified, read in the Daily Nebraskan in the issue following the game.

1978.

Was funny as he**. And FUN.

When I go to toilet, I know I'm pokie but it takes time giving birth to an Okie.
Freakin' hilarious.
Don't give me credit for coming up with that little diddy. I first read it on the wall while seated in a men's bathroom at a I-80 rest stop somewhere around Grand Island.

Like many of our boy, Hunchie's literary masterpieces, it's one of those poetic gems that's stuck with me all these years.

Sure, sure. Blame it on GI. An I-80 rest stop somewhere around Grand Island. Why not around Lincoln or Omaha or Scottsbluff. Anything but GI.

Still funny as hell though
