Probably nothing

..........and what are we to make of that? I think I'm missing something here.

I doubt we are going after Matt Eberflus but Carlos Polk is on the Cowboys staff as a special teams coach.

I would guess that any new DC would be announced after bowl season. Unless this person is currently not coaching. Also, most assistant coach contracts end around that time.

The new DC will probably be announced before the bowl game. Snow will still be the DC for the bowl game but Rhule doesn't want to wait any longer than needed. The longer he takes the fewer options we have, then we are back in the same place we were last year when he promoted Butler.

Yep, the new DC needs to be announced as soon as possible. Prospective recruits need to know who they will be playing for. Do it quickly but do it RIGHT this time. It's a tough hiring task this time of the season/year for obvious reasons.

Just the way this has been handled leads me to think that there is some plan in place. Some favorite/s on Matt’s list that are definite possibilities. If it’s all his desires or accumulated information, I haven’t a clue, but I’m betting this is a fast search and hire. Don’t know if that’s good or bad, but I don’t see a protracted hunt, A la PSU.

I'm not as convinced as you, redfred. The way this has been handled leads me to believe...something had to happen the week after being blown out by Iowa! :)
Quite true, but I can't help thinking a tentative plan was in place before the Iowa game. ;). I think the Iowa game might have been the nail in the coffin that was at least on the drawing board. Now, if no announcement is made in the next seven to ten days, I'll concede defeat.

The PSU debacle is becoming Solich/Pederson Part Deux, and I'm lovin' every minute of it. Kraft/Pederson feared PSU was mired in mediocrity, fired his coach (Solich,Franklin), searched far and wide for a new coach, with about 6-10 coaches declining his offer (with one even holding up the Cable Guy in Happy Valley). Now it looks like they may be settling for a recently fired NFL coach, Bill Callahan/Brian Daboll. What a disaster.

The schadenfreude is powerful in this one.

Rhule had the looks of someone who was under a lot of stress before the Iowa game. Trying to prep for a game, dealing with the Raiola situation, dealing with an existing DC who in not on the same page as you, and looking for a new DC all at the same time could cause that type of stress.

That's why he gets the big bucks. There are plenty of jobs around the country managing a Starbucks for $60-70K/yr. Maybe he can't handle being a B1G Head Coach. The shame would be on us paying someone a Power 4 salary for a Temple level HC. You may have hit on something Cigarman- maybe the job is too big for him. He wouldn't be the first HC to find his place one level down. (see Scott Frost)
