Where in the heck is it good/great running back? We have had some of the best in college football and Frost has done NOTHING to get one all he seems to want is a light weight couldn’t run three paper. In the Big Ten you must have a great running back.

Once upon a time, we were known for having a room of NFL-caliber RBs.

Now? We don't have one.
Would we really lean on one if we had the good RB? Hell, Mills does ok, but will Frost keep feeding the ball to any RB? He has done that once in 3 years that I can remember, (Wisconsin last year) and even then he couldn't resist going pass happy for multiple drives when the run was working. I think until we show a willingness to feature/execute the run game, it's going to be hard to attract great RBs, and Held hasn't been impressive at all in getting our current guys developed (so far).

We've got 2 or 3 guys that could be really good for us, but they are never given the opportunity to get into a groove. Sometimes it's injuries, but I blame it mostly on the clown-car approach to rotation in the backfield. When a guy comes in cold he's more likely to get hurt.

There are multiple issues - but clowncar is a good way to describe how the offense is managed. I think they try to get too cute with certain guys/certain plays - which any good defensive coach can scout from the film. I think that shows up especially on the screen game - as soon as they see a TE outside - the LBs and secondary attack the play to blow it up. There also is a limited play set we run with WR1 in the backfield. Anyway - Frost looks predictable to me because I can guess about 90% of the time what is coming based on who is in the game and down/distance. I was probably 75% with T.O. and Solich - but we also executed at a high level where knowing often didn't mean it could be stopped.

Hell - if we had the 2013 offense with the rest of the 2020 team - totally different season. TMart, Abdullah, KBell, Westercamp, Quincy.....do we have any player better than those guys? Maybe WR1 - but that is it.

I don't know how many times I need to say it - practice is great - but if players crap a load in games over and over.....well they should not play. Looked like the outside blocker got BLOWN UP badly and WR1 had to change the route to release out of the backfield - so AM threw a bad ball trying to adjust. But he threw bad balls all day - so might be his shoulder is janked but Frost is too scared to ride Luke or anyone else at this point.

I'll bet if we were to go back to the Illinois game, they practiced the same play to the other side 40 times with the same cluster of a result. But hey, 40 more reps will fix it.

At some point you have to accurately simulate game situations, so Frost should create a bunch of missed assignments every 10 reps and force Martinez to throw with someone in his face every other play in practice, because that's what happens in a game. o_O I mean for f@cks sake, get creative in trying to change SOMETHING in your practice approach instead of doing the same thing over and over and then sh!t the bed on Saturday. If I hear "we had the best week of practice since I 've been here" one more time, I think I'm going to pull a "Votary" and punch myself in the dick.... :50:

A running back has to get into a rhythm and our guys never can quite get there because our resident genius decides to air it out and then we get off schedule and need to throw to make a first down.

What a waste of 40 practice snaps.

I remember when someone like Kenny Clark (RIP) was thought of by the fanbase as an OK back while we were waiting for the next great one. Now, this team would kill for a Ken Clark.
Dedrick Mills is no less of a running back than Ken Clark. Clark had a good senior year BUT he also has a supporting cast that allowed him running space. Mills can play.

Whoa. Mills is no Ken Clark no matter how you look at it.

Ken Clark out rushed Barry Sanders head to head. Mills would be lucky to sniff Barry Sanders jock strap.

Mills is a good back in the way we used to call Tyrese Knox a good back. Thats not an insult, its just weird how perspective has changed.

I remember a story about Ken Clark. His high school team was at the 50. He gets the ball and scores. Alas, a flag was thrown and they bring it back and tack on a ten yard penalty. Next play Clark runs the ball again, 60 yards to the endzone. Revenge? Not so much cause there is a flag back at the line of scrimmage. This time the play is called back and 15 yards are now added on. They are now at their own 25. Clark gets it a third time and rambles for a 75 yard td. No flag this time.
