Omar Manning

Per Damon on Big Red Overreaction just now "Omar is not hurt. He is not hurt." He also mentioned that you can't let guys say what they want and come and go as they want. Sounds like this thing is a disciplinary thing and if that's so Frost should stick to his guns.

Discipline has been surreal. None of the discipline moves have been public but we don't need Damon trying to let the cat out. Sitting players for anything short of major problems just seems like an odd way to build a championship quality team,

Keep in mind we (and every team) have had limited practices including no Spring Football. Some of the new players will get worked into games but it will take a few weeks.

I hear what you're saying, but none of the other teams had spring practice either, yet I see freshmen WRs playing big roles all across the country--we have 2 redshirt freshmen that can't find their way to the field, yet they've been here a year---why we can't put in a package for our best athletes (even if they don't know the entire playbook) is beyond me--tell me we can't take our fastest WR, split him out wide and tell him to run a fly pattern, just to make the safeties back up, if nothing else

I read on another site we have recruited 17 WRs in the last 3 years, yet we started 2 walk-ons vs OSU

It's on the coaches to find a way to get your best players on the field

Considering the facts that you stated, the current staff is either not recruiting the right guys at WR, not developing the WRs, or their system is very complex and it takes a buttload of time to get guys on the field.....or a combination of all 3......

It could be they aren't getting guys involved which is not the same thing as not developing them. I don't care how complex a system is, you crawl before you walk.

Ya, that's true. I was lumping involvement under development, but it does differ to some degree. Whatever the impediment is, I hope they get it figured out soon.....

Will Omar play this week?

Inquiring minds want to know

PS— also wondering about Brown, Betts, Fleming etc

I can't remember where I first heard it (I think it was on a Star Trek show some 50 years ago), but great ability leads to great egos. I think a staff, any staff, can be forgiven for having a hard time corralling various athlete's egos into a general team oriented direction. If given enough time most staffs can meet this challenge, but time isn't always on the side of collegiate sports programs...…...especially those who must rely on juco, and transfer, players. Players have been force fed how great they are for years, and it doesn't stop once they go to college. Family, friends, and other programs are still guilty of bolstering egos for various reasons. I don't envy staffs in this day and age having to blend confidence, with a greater good.

I suspect more fantastic talents have fallen through the cracks because they couldn't come to terms with disposing of a "me first" attitude than we would care to admit. I think this is especially true with struggling programs. Programs that give the appearance of "needing" players are often perceived as vulnerable to high grade talents as easy marks to do what they want. Once it starts it is hard to stop. It is best to never let any player dictate their own culture. The value of the many outweighs the value of the one...…….now, that is a Star Trek line.

They should just send Omar streaking down the sideline on the first play and have AM2 throw up a Tommy Armstrong style YOLO bomb, if it goes for a TD Husker Nation would go bonkers and he would be a legend even if he never makes another catch.
