NOT a rebuild!

I like it--there is more than enough talent on this team to win now--not saying BIG champs or playoff team, but a team that can play with anyone and doesn't quit

I really hate to throw a damp towel on all this enthusiasm but...

Here's a computer simulation that was run on our season and I'm sad to report we're gonna finish 4-8. You can check out our simulated season yourself below. While we knew going in that we had a rough road schedule, it was particularly tough to watch us get beaten at home by Colorado, Purdue, and Michigan State. :(

I may be wrong, but I think the true test of this team will be their response when they get smacked in the mouth. When they decide that they are going to fight back, that will be the sign that the culture has turned the corner.

When I saw what btn wrote about us, Ijust dont see us as being worse than say an iowa.
Now, according to btn,our lines are close to the best in the west, differences are, we are projected to be a more ch better team by the end of the season.
I cant say the same for iowa, all their system is in, and they have many experienced players playing it, just like wiscy.
Well, you cant say that about us, but then again, its only going to hurt us for so long, as we start putting things together ourselves.

We may not be comfortable, or have every play and blitz package installed, but the staff has said, we are way ahead of ucf year one.
To me, this is a ramp up year, and any team on any given staurday had better hope more lights dont come on as we play them, because they will.
Yes, this year we can be dangerous, next year we will be dangerous, like I said, certain teams better hope we arent being dangerous this year in their game.

Look at it this way.....I have seen the look in these guys eyes once before.....and only once.....and that team, that no body gave a snowballs chance in hell of doing anything.....well they we're not a brash team who's mouths would write checks their butts couldn't cash....they just came to practice every day.....worked hard.....harder than they themselves thought possible then one day right before the start of the season a big knuckle bustin fight broke out between one Offensive Lineman and one Defensive Lineman....at first we all thought .....oh crap this is gonna be big.....them 2 will be running the stadium like......for ever ! ....Coach Osborne even said DADGUMMIT !......TWICE.......HIS FACE WAS AS RED AS HIS THEN GRAYING HAIR....then something I still can't explain happened between the 2 guys fighting ......and brother they were going at it.....if just one of them haymakers they were slinging had hit me......I might still be seeing little birdies flying around like in Looney Toons......anyway Coach McBride and Coach Tenopir we're having a quiet conference with Coach Osborne at about the 25 yard line and all of a sudden the 2 linemen who just seconds before were trying to knock each other out.....started hugging and high fiving and laughing..???.....then the whole team busted up.....man it was like a big family reunion where everybody hugs and laughs right after.....the steam was let off......we were all so tired of hittin each other we we're ready to pop.....and not in a good way.....and to this day I know in my heart that Uncle Milt and Coach Mac had this all cooked up......to get us to loosen up.....then crap while all this was going on sirens started blowing, horns honking, Harley motorcycles revving up and here thru the gates came a ambulance, a couple of pick up trucks some guys from campus with Harley's flying Husker and Blackshirt flags crap it was like a mini circus......all we needed was the Team Shrine Clowns on mini bikes and it would have been complete..... Well they pulled in onto a couple of big blue/green plastic tarps on the east side near the end one tunnel entrance ( all of us wondered about the tarps).....and in the back of the pickups were big stock tanks full of ice water and Ice and watermelons out the yin yang......there was lots of fresh fruit.....ice cold.....plums, peaches, oranges, apples, Bananas, you name it and it was most likely in one of them stock tanks.....it was the absolute coolest thing on a really warm muggy early evening......boy did it build relationships.....we had impromptu dances, guys singing, it was just the neatest thing I had experienced to date......anyway that bunch of guys all became brothers from different mother's and we were dedicated to one thing and one thing only.....one game at a time.....day by day......no surrender......no quit......take no prisoner's.....leave only the beatin and broken remains of the teams in our way.....in our wake.......do it with integrity, passion, fair play, and above all else respect.....and honesty......we didn't bow our heads to no one, no matter the outcome of the game and the final score......they were going to remember us for a long time.....they were going to know they played a real big boy football team....if they played dirty......we played smart.....if they were a throwing team.....we didn't give their Quarterback time to think or breathe.....if they were a running team.....we stuffed their tailbacks so they wound up with negative yardage.....our Offense would be relentless.....making their defense Chase us from sideline to sideline play after play....the 4-5 yrd 1st and 2nd quarter runs we were making in the 2nd half turned into 7-9 yard runs then by the 4th Quarter they were so beat up.....most of them gave up.....and we would start playing our young guys so they had real game experience.....some games.....we started subbing guys 3/4's of the way into the 3rd Quarter....and if they started rolling throwing up a bunch of points the benches got cleared.....everybody got to play some.....what a great learning tool that can be.....anyway that same team went on to play Florida State in the Orange Bowl with their Mr. Everything Charlie Ward at QB to a stand still and even though the score says they beat us....we were actually well ahead of them in that game but because of a phantom call that no one (even Bobby Bowden ) can't find on film from about every angle imaginable that returns for points got taken away......we didn't want to be poor crybaby sports but the ref who made those calls,.... we were all told much later when back in Nebraska....he had a serious Gambling debt that got miraculously all cleared up after that game ?????? But that was then.....this is now.....stuff like that is all conspiracy theory right......"No More Gravy"......" NOW HE KNOWS.....NOW HE KNOWS ! ".....If your confused Google the Movie "Conspiracy Theroy" with Julia Roberts, Mel Gibson and Sir Patrick Stewart.....then you'll get it.....

Anyway that team did some perdy special things and led the way to much greater things quick, fast and in a hurry......those guys had that same look in their eyes every day ........no matter who said what.....talk is cheap....Winning is expensive.....it costs blood, sweat and tears.....but most of all the shear strength to force your will upon others and never ever give up.

It's going to remind the blue hairs of the 1962 season. In both cases, new coaches came in and turned the program around immediately. No five-year plan. No "wait until he has his own recruits years and years from now." It's going to happen almost right away.

Anybody else want to run through a wall right now? Thanks, Doc. Great read!

SF has mastered this offense, he has evolved it several times and ways.
He takes good talent and puts them in great situations, great positions.
At oregon and at ucf, it wasnt his defense that made the offense great, and at both oregon and ucf, he never had the depth of talent bama or osu has had, yet his offenses were better.
To think we need to wait to 'get our guys' just doesnt line up with history or the facts.
Of course it'll surely help, but if you listen to him, verdu, walters etc, its how much they can use, how confortable our team is within the scheme.
Our coaches, SF et al, have gone on record time and again, attributing to coach Osborne, that every play has a solution to it, its a matter of having the team, starting with our qb, of them seeing those solutions, then comfortably delivering them.

It'll be interesting as to how coach Chins evolves his defense as well, as we go into Big run heavy offenses, and just like any great coach, they recognize greatness and talent way before others do, then surround themselves with it.
For every TO, theres a Charlie Mac, and so on down the line.
Ucfs offense works anywheres, with play calling not alignment assignments make it work.
Not sure if the same can be said of Chins D, but, even Charlie Mac had to switch things up.

Take this for what its worth, but one of the coaches told a friend of mine that the staff's mindset about how competitive we are going to be this year has grown a lot since the start of fall camp. They started out thinking we wouldnt be able to compete with the top tier of the conference but now they think we can play with anyone this year.

Thats why they came here to begin with.
Think it was Benning who said, they need to want to win, they need to win, then, learning how to win, the need to start to expect to win.
As the season plays out, they will learn the bad taste of defeat, instead of something worse, abandonment.
They will know what direction brought them to even this low point, and know its not acceptable.
