NIL.

How much NIL money will it take to get a competent long snapper? Is there a big talent gap between average and excellent? A scholarship, an opportunity to start right away and $50K oughta do it, don't ya think?

The NFL might as well buy and take over this mess. At least they know how to run the show.
Exactly! Bring a professional order to all this. I'm talking contracts, salary caps the whole ball of wax
Honestly, all of that is going to happen at some point in time.
The B1G and SEC Heads understood this at the beginning of this Wild Wild West World. When the new CFB TV contracts are about to expire in 2030, the Big 2 are going to step in and organize an NFL-like structure outside of the NCAA and bring some structure, new rules, and new regulations to the current insanity. But we've got four more years of this.

I agree. Then we can finally do away with the ridiculous notion that these guys are here for an education and do away with the student part.

Part of it better be writing an ENORMOUS check to their schools every year. I'm talking tens, maybe hundreds of millions for the facilities, land rent, academics and.... use of the name.

There will be major shifts every year. The lawyers have only begun to parse out the contracts. The definition of an NIL agent is far from clarified. Multi-year contracts will become the norm with painful escape clauses. Right now, I wouldn't give a penny to an athlete based on what their future performance might be. I would only pay based on what they'll bring to the field THIS YEAR.

I have long been a believer that head coaches, all across college football, should be paid 500K a year. Want to make millions? Then f^^^ing win and hit bonuses:

9-10 wins = 500K bonus
11-12 wins = 1 million bonus
Win your conference division = 500K bonus.
Win your conference = 1 million bonus.
Make the CFP = 1 million bonus
Win the CFP = 3 million bonus.
Sign a Top 5 recruiting class = 1 million
6-10 recruiting class = 750K
11-20 = 500K
21-25 = 250K

The numbers listed above are flexible but give an idea how a merit and performance based system would work. You could also change the metrics and apply it to players based on their on-field accomplishments, not their "star rankings" coming out of high school.

Oh and as a coach, or player, when you sign a contract, if you fail and/or don't succeed, you get nothing. So a coach who signs a 3 year deal, goes 5-19 in 2 years and is fired? No contract buyout for the 3rd year. You walk away with nothing. Same for the players, fail or are a bust, you get nothing. Let the best rise to the top and get paid, the middle can make a good living, and those on the bottom can be on the struggle bus with everyone else.

Basically, no more guaranteed millions for terrible results.
