People need to stop focusing on trying to make the playoffs. We need to win a conference title first. We need to get over that hump first.

True. This team isn't in the same hemisphere as potential playoff teams. Not this year.

Well, the game went exactly as I thought it would. Better coaching, better talent, better product on the field. MSU is a better program, from top to bottom, than the Huskers. I'm not angry or disappointed because this game went exactly how I thought it would. I was told otherwise, but I was right, as expected.

If I had to say what is the one thing that really did bother me, it would be that the utterly worthless offensive line killed AA's chances of winning a Heisman. The defense did what it could, but when MSU hands so many opportunities to the offense and they disgrace themselves so badly, there is no chance of winning.

Take a bow boys on the offensive line, you cost a great football player his chance of winning an award that he has worked so hard to achieve. Maybe you should consider not standing around watching the ball carriers get murdered next time you strap on the uniform? You disgrace the tradition, and the uniform.

As far as Tommy Armstrong, what an awful game. You are not the future and I hope to God someone else is ready to step up.

I disagree somewhat Ohio. Better coaching? Offensively, in particular play calling, yes. Defensively, pretty much a wash. Special teams, we had one punt return for a TD, and they killed two or three punts inside the two yard line so that was a push.

Tommy did have a bad game no question about it and OC Beck did not help him out at all. In my Post Game Analysis thread I pretty much broke down where NU failed offensively. The middle of the Spartan defense (7-12 yards) was wide open all night. Tim Beck could have, and should have, started running routes into the middle of the field to take advantage of the Spartan LBs who were so quickly filling thier gaps to stop Ameer.

And while the OL didn't play well, they were pretty much in the same boat as Tommy (victimized by Beck's odd gameplan).

Speaking of the punt return, was I the only one that wished DPE would have petted the football in Sadler's face as he ran by him?

Bad calls, fumbles sure, but Nebraska was whipped physically and was lucky that the MSU secondary dropped a lot of errant passes. Most times Armstrong's passes fell short of the mark. Those are difficult to catch or intercept.

This was one time Beck stayed with the run too long. Eight in the box on both first and second downs the first half. Maybe could of used a passer. I watched uncovered receivers waving more than once for the ball, only to see the quarterback dial in on a covered receiver. Deja vu....

When it's analyzed and broke down to the lowest denominator the best team won. The 5-0 team exposed for their weaknesses and expectations fall a goal or two. Good sure, great not so much. What we needed back in the Solich years was a passer to compliment the rushing game. The spread didn't fool MSU. Deja vu, all over again.

I agree 100%.

It is odd in a way, we criticize Beck for not sticking with the running game and then complain when he sticks with it. LOL.

In reality though, there is a world of difference between abandoning the running game when you're averaging 5+ yards per carry and sticking with it when you're being stymied for 1 yard or less per carry.

I watched most of the Texas A&M-Mississippi St and Ole Miss-Alabama games. And honestly, none of those teams are the NFL caliber type of teams espn is telling us they are. What I learned this weekend (rather what became crystal clear) is that EVERY team has weaknesses and flaws which can be exploited. This is not exclusively a Nebraska issue. There are no perfect teams out there.

If Nebraska could have capitalized on MSU's early gaffes they could have put this game away early and this conversation would be VERY different. It is all about perspective.

I very much agree with that. This is a very odd year in that apparently nobody is safe.

But I want to make one thing absolutely clear: I am under no illusions here, the better team definitely won. No team can afford to sleepwalk through three quarters and expect to win.

What is encouraging though, is the fact that even with as poorly as NU played, they actually had a chance to win at the end. Now, a case could be made that MSU took their foot off the gas so to speak, but I don't think that is 100% accurate. MSU committed gaffes that could have allowed us to put them away early and we committed gaffes that allowed them to build that lead.

They took advantage of our mistakes and we didn't take advantage of theirs. That is why, last night, they were the better team and won.

Edit: But MSU was not noticibly superior in any regard. They did play harder, and smarter, but they wern't any better athletically than NU.

I think that summarizes the situation so completely that there isn't really a reason to post anything further this week. But I will, but I don't need to.

Well, that's really appropriate for this forum. Thanks for your participation.

Seriously--with your prediction, I cant imagine why you bothered to watch the game--you "knew' how it was going to end---I guess I just get a little irritated when people like you act all butt-hurt when NU loses--I don't like the losses either--I promise I am as emotionally invested as anyone here and more financially invested than most--go back and read what you wrote--you are the definition of a bad fan

It took 6 weeks, but we finally have a bad fan bingo. Enjoy your door prize.

Does anyone know how financially invested I need to be to think the Huskers are going to lose to a better team? I prefer to not get my expectations too high so I'm not disappointed but if this is going to cost me a lot of money it might be a problem. Can I get a ballpark figure?

My name is already on a brick in the football office. Do I get some residual credit for that?

It wasn't that bad as far as effort.

If anything NU was slow to recognize what MSU's gameplan was until it was too late.

I have never criticized Beck specifically for running or passing, it's for not staying with what works. IMO, Beck does not have a good feel for play calling far too often. But, to be fair, there were open receivers against MSU. TA just refused to maintain his fundamentals to be able to complete the passes. Someone needs to teach him how to read coverages and look people off. But, it is more difficult to do when your tackles are getting beat like a rented drum most of the night.....

The part I highlighted in red was completely unnecessary, uncalled for, wrong, and I believe an apology is in order (even if it is done via pm). There is no need to go there Red. We all have opinions and this site allows us to share those opinions. If you have a problem with a particular post you can either ignore it, send the poster a pm, or respond but in a dignified way and calling someone a bad fan is not the right way to go about it. Just my .02.

Respectfully disagree--when the poster writes " You disgrace the tradition, and the uniform." what I wrote is spot on

I think we can do without the "bad fan" label, IMO. We disagree on many things on this board, but I don't think we need to be telling people how they need to be a fan, and what is "Approved" or "Unacceptable" behavior to get labeled a "good fan" or a "bad fan." If we start down that road, I think it will lead us to places I don't think we want to go..... :dunno:
