Mr. Anonymous: Lavonte David

[Righteous Red]

Yesterday Lavonte David had: 10 Solo, 2 Assists, 1 TF Loss, 3 QB Hurries, 1 Fumble Recovery. Lavonte has been consistently putting up jaw dropping stats like this for his whole career. He has 870 total tackles, 22 sacks, 10 interceptions so far in his career. Despite this, he has been named to the Pro Bowl only once, 2015, and has been an alternate another. There are guys in the Hall of Fame that haven’t put up those numbers. He has been recognized by his peers as one of the Best That You Never Heard Of. If Tampa Bay had a winning record, he would have instant name recognition like a JJ Watt and others. The players on his team say he is so understated that he goes unnoticed. He doesn’t Ham it up after plays. At Nebraska we always appreciated his side line to side line speed to make plays. His present teammates are constantly amazed also at his sideline pursuit. I hope he starts to get the recognition he deserves. I hope Coach Frost can find another Lavonte, it’s been too long since we have had a playmaker like that.

I hope so too but just like Suh, players like that come along very, very seldom. A more legitimate hope might be for good players that are willing to play their part, are team players, and are willing to develop into very good players with a little time and effort.

I agree though players like that are difference makers. They can make up for a lot of deficiencies, and can jump start a defense/offense very quickly.....so fingers crossed.

One thing I do know, should a player of his caliber stumble on our program again, he won't be anonymous around here very long.

He had a nose for the ball carrier, and the ball, like no other I have seen at Nebraska.

A lot of good players have disappeared on NFL teams like that.

Terrell Farley was probably just as talented minus a head on his shoulders. Wonder what he's doing now days....So much wasted talent from those mid 90 teams.

Last I heard, he was a janitor in Canada.

The Bucs are to pro football players that the University of Kansas is to coaches...career killers and a sure promise to toil in absolute anonymity.

Now that is funny, and sad, at the same time.

He looked like he could put the pads on and go out and play. Glad to see he was in great shape. A great player from Columbus, GA.

Another Buc linebacker from NU that put up great stats and went unnoticed was Barrett Ruud. Derrick Brooks once commented that Barrett was the best middle linebacker in the League

Yup...and guess where he played most of his NFL career...look no further than the Bucs. #CommonThemeHere

Lavonte has a five year, $50 million contract from the Bucs, so he's not too forgotten. He will probably be negotiating his next deal this time next year, so he's playing his best at the right time.
