As I politely declined a refill on Kool-Aid in the off-season, I pointed out that this team will go as far as the OL will take it. The OL failed to open many holes for what I think are fairly good backs. In fact, I thought Northwestern owned the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball, especially in the second half.
It doesn't take a genius to see that Nebraska won't win many B1G games if they lose in the trenches. As Frost is a native Nebraskan and a former QB at NU, it mystifies me beyond explanation how he didn't prioritize the OL in his first few seasons and set us up for some kind of success. At the end of year four, he hired a guy with limited experience to fix the most crucial aspect of the team.
The on-sides kick call might be remembered for being the "beginning of the end" for Frost, but it is the inexplicable failure to create strong line play that will be the reason one for his failure.
I still want Frost to succeed. Another coaching change means more losing, at least in the short term. But after yesterday, it's starting to look like he'll need a lot of good fortune just to get to 4-2 by the halfway point of the season. Good fortune and Scott Frost haven't really matched up too well.
