Marques Stepp

HS Junior: missed most of the season with an injury.
HS Senior: missed three games with an injury.
Never amassed a 1,000 yard season in his hs career.

Frosh USC: Suffered concussion in fall camp. Missed a few games. Played sparingly after that. Eligible for redshirt.

2nd Frosh year. Played some but sprained ankle and missed rest of year.

Soph season: Outside of a 49 yard run averaged 2.5 yards per carry. Did play in all games. That run was the only one longer than 10 yards.......on the season.

Facts to mull on any way you want to look at it.

Don't want to diss the guy, I hope the best as a fan. But as a realist it's unlikely he'll be a different player here. We are having some real issues in our running game and need major help.

Maybe he was faking all those injuries cause he wanted to come to Nebraska and shine! LOL

In Frost's first year we supposedly got the best jc back in the country. He brought almost nothing to the table. His breakaway speed was jaw dropping but not in a good way.
I recall the first time the kid broke with speed into the open, I said, "WHOA!"

30 yards downfield when he was caught from behind, I said 'whoa" again. :)

If youre talking about never getting 1000 yards in HS, i know he did at least twice.
Just think about it, and a link would be nice, but think, how do you get a 4 star rating with less than a 1000 yds on HS?
If youre only put in the game inside the ten yd line, hard to run even for 11 right?
USCs run pass ratio was 40% run and 60% pass, or IOW, the ran to pass the ball.
Nobody averaged didly on that team for yds per carry, and USC was 120th in rushing.
They simply didnt run the ball, except in their usc game, where he came out and tore it up.

Bottom line, MRJFB is just keepin' it real, know what I'm sayin'? Then we have dreamers on the other side of the spectrum. Nobody right, nobody wrong....yet. Which reminds me of one of my favorite songs. Anyhow, we'll see in September.

You'll have to excuse this 50 season fan. 30 years of greatness, then an arc downward slowly that has landed in a s-hole we can't seem to escape from.
Do you realize we've averaged 4 wins the past 4 seasons? This is arguably the worst minor era in the schools history. Were talking Bill Jennings had a better pct or very similar. Yes, I am very cynical of thinking the Great Pumpkin is coming this year.
Transfer and portal guys are, the majority of the time, guys who have dedication issues. It used to be a few guys now it seems the majority. How many of our dropouts are even heard from again. Two come to mind, the rb that went to TCU and the qb Frost had back in Florida. The rest of them seem to have faded into oblivion. Or think about our cant miss reciever from last year. It just never happened despite all the preseason hype and chatter.
People see what they want.

I have you by a few years. I became a Cornhusker fan 70 years ago. So I remember the really bad years.

We’ve reached that time now. Frost needs to show us a team this year or he needs to leave. He’s going into year four. If he hasn’t become the head coach we though we had hired by now, he never will. No excuses.

Damn. I was all ready to taunt MRJFB for being 'a more experienced' Husker fan until I read your post, NUinNC!

At least you had the experience of watching a crappy team become a dynasty. If you're like me and start going to games as a Boy Scout usher when Tagge and Bronson were sophomores, you end up spending the first 31 years of your fandom with a silver spoon in your mouth and being spoiled rotten. Forgive me, God, I assumed kick-butt Husker football was my birth right.

And NOW??!? I'm sitting beside that grumpy old coot, MRJFB who delights in crapping all over my 'Great Pumpkin' expectations every fall. Seriously, God, isn't 20 years punishment enough?

Dont put too much into his being injured alot at USC...I've heard before the injury thing is a well used ploy by both sides of the issue in this case.
He was told certain things then those things never materialized so the hold out for injury was a 2 way street.
IN DEFENSE OF MARQUES I have a VERY GOOD IDEA that the injury bug he has had in the past is all "healed up" now with his return to Big10 country and I have a better than average understanding of what his role is in this seasons coming offensive scheme.
So to be blunt and to the point sit back, relax and give him a game to get into the flow of this offense and you are in for a rare treat I think, the likes of which we haven't had in a while.
