Mancrushes and Missteps

I am going to throw this out there...

Would we (as a fan base) want a successful coach if he came from Division 1AA? NAIA? High School?

There is a segment of the fan base that would reject any coach without Nebraska ties

Pickings are slim at the moment, if it were me I would start with Saban or Belichek disciples with 3 years plus under either coach.

I would imagine if ISU has another good or great year and Matt Campbell's stock is still high he will likely be looking for the lifeboat to get out of the B12 that at this point is akin to the Titanic. I had heard from sources that have been very accurate in the past that the ISU AD Pollard was the #1 target for the AD job and there was a verbal agreement in place and then after he had a chance to sleep on it he got cold feet and declined the offer. This would have put an extreme amount of pressure on Frost to right the ship this season for fear that Pollard was going to bring his previous coach Campbell in. At this point none of that matters but if Frost is relieved of his duties I would think Campbell would be near the top of the list as he has overachieved at a smaller school with lesser players. If he can recruit and be successful at a school like ISU then you would have to imagine that success would translate and be magnified at a school like Nebraska that has greater resources and name recognition. However I am sure Nebraska would not be the only suitor...

Seems like I've heard this before...

I have seen other ppl mention Hugh Freeze (Liberty) but he comes with baggage. Gus Malzahn just took the UCF job, if he has some success I am sure at some point he wants to get back in the Power Five. Not sure how good of a fit he would be at Nebraska and if he would view Nebraska as a stepping stone or if he would view it as a place to try and finish his career.

They gave him a big contract last year, he wont move and we cant afford to buy him out.

If Frost continues to tank the boosters may come up with the money to buy ISU out if they think he is the solution. I think the bigger challenge is would Campbell want to come here?

Lane has performed well at Bama, FAU and Ole Miss but he isn't leaving Beauregard for Herbie

I know, but that wasn't my point. My point was Lane Kiffen has already been a head coach at USC and Tennessee and failed miserably.

Now if my memory serves, Kiffen was a head coach at those two schools before joining Saban's staff, but the takeaway, and what I was trying to humorously get at, is that successful assistants have no more likelihood to succeed than anyone else.

Nebraska is a dream job. Anyone that thinks it is not has sh!t for brains.

We have a staff that got paid five years for garbage results. That's long enough. Do your investigation. Fire for cause. Otherwise, this is what the fans wanted. A crap product for the price of a Cadillac.
