Their guest was Bo Pelini. Now I know that a lot of members here have contempt for Pelini and others miss those 9 win seasons, but some of the stories he told about his time and players at Nebraska were fun to listen to. BTW, if coarse language isn't your thing, this probably isn't for you. I think it is an Apple podcast.

"Bussin' With the Boys" episode, Will Compton

If I can be candid... Listen to 30 min in... Will Compton tells the coach he could have been more together on the sideline caused panic among the players.
Nailed it

Talks about TO 45 min in ... Man this is a very interesting interview

There is this view that they let Pelini out of a cage to coach games because he was a snarling, uncontrollable animal. I remember seeing him once paying for meal of a table full of people next to us. He was actually pretty charming and bigger than life.
I don't know that he was another Osborne but I think a lot of things came into play against him here. Some self imposed but other things were not on him.

Would have liked WC to ask him about his final meeting with the players when tried to burn the program to the ground

I was on the fence about firing Bo, but that final meeting thoroughly convinced me it was the right decision. I won’t forgive or forget his conduct on the way out the door

That said, he seems like he would be a great guy to have a beer with and listen to war stories

I thought it was funny when Compton described a sideline incident where he said he thought Pelini was just in a dark place and didn't even realize how crazed he was at that moment. I thought it was funny and very possible at the same time. His sideline behavior during one Texas A&M game I remember watching on national TV was sadly memorable. But at the same time I remember the officiating in that game was horribly against the Huskers. But, I said to the person I was with at the time, Bo needs to stop his rants, because he's making it worse. Officials are human beings and when someone is disrespecting them and cursing at them, they figure out ways to get revenge.

I pretty much knew he was going to be fired, but wasn't for it...but that last meeting changed my mind.

The so-called AD at the time, along with the Chancellor F'd him over. I'm not sure I blame him for his rant at his last meeting with the players. Bo isn't a politician and he never will be. Like me, he could probably have used an anger management course. And i doubt he is waiting for anyone to forgive him for his words or actions. He and Bobby Knight are not looking to be loved. Having said that, his departure didn't break my heart. But the next head coach hire did.

A leader of young men doesn't do what Bo did. Instead of helping his players prepare for a new coaching staff, he took a fragile, smoldering situation and deliberately poured gasoline on it. That was inexcusable behavior for ANY coach in my book, let alone one who was going to get big money from the University for many years to come.

His comments on the Texas Nebraska championship game warrant a congressional investigation. That game got TU into the NCG and they most certainly did not deserve it. As he said the game was over. TU got the advantage of the big 12 official hitting replay, boy they wont get that crap in the SEC unless they burn those orange unis.

We agree to disagree. These weren't fragile little girls he was talking to. These were the young men and players whose backs he had.

He had the players' backs? How exactly? Seems to me Pelini deliberately set up a toxic locker room situation for the next coaching staff and harmed recruiting....and for what?

All Pelini did with his good-bye stunt was attempt to sooth his own fragile ego while ignoring the fact he was still picking up big monthly paychecks from a university who continued to uphold its end of their bargain. For a coach who loved to talk about loyalty, where the hell was his?

Yep, it's always 'all good' with us, Linving.

Shoot Dog, the game could've been over for an hour and Husker players and fans celebrating and the officials would've come to Bo and said, "Yeah sorry, we are just going to give the Longhorns a FG cause that ball hit the ground out of bounds before the clock expired. And we don't want to cause a ruckus on the field so we are going to give them the FG and the win."

Bo is NE Ohio Youngstown trash. They are almost all almost same. Giant chip on their shoulder with the pathetic "you think you're better than me" attitude.

Trust me, it gets old fast, and that's just having a beer at the local watering hole, not coaching Nebraska.

His meltdown was as predictable as the sun coming up.

The ball hit the ground before the clock ran out, period. I'm sure they started it late at the snap and everyone wanted Texas to win, but with exact replay the ball hit the ground first.

Come on, OhioHusker, you know better than that! As loyal-to-the-bones Husker fans, we never allow reality get in the way of our self-righteous indignation. Screw those Texas refs!!!!

Spot on---There was still time on the clock--just like the 93 Orange Bowl (I still have nightmares of Byron Bennets's duck hook)
