Jayin Bradley

If he is anywhere near what he did in High School......(and I truly think this is one kid who will follow in the steps of Ahman Green and really blossom in College and the NFL).....We have nothing to worry about for a few short years at the running back position.....Right now we're fairly deep at that spot.....Not good enough yet but perdy decent.....Gotta keep in mind too his best friend who runs a good ball as well is on our radar for this up coming recruiting season too....Though some say he would translate to more of a slot type guy ?

I was concerned about our RB depth last year when we only signed one player (Bradley) and there was talk of Wilbon leaving--after watching the spring game today, I have no worrries--we look to be at least 4 deep with quality backs--very impressed with Mazzour---looked Danny Woodheadesque out there--was curious why TB18 didn't play after the first qtr

GBR

You could see the starting rotation in this group is why Bryant sat after the 1st qtr. He is the starter and they don't wanna take a chance with a lower leg injury now that might force him to miss the upcoming season.....We need continuity at this spot more than almost any other for obvious reasons but rest assured Tre Bryant is the 2017 starting Running back.

If some one could please post a link on the Jaylin Bradley Article in today's Weird Gerald that Rich Kiapust did it would be greatly appreciated....

With that being said I really hope the "Proof is in the Puddin" as they say for our young Mr.Bradley.....If he can grasp a decent slice of plays,..... it would be fantastic to see him make the kind of splash in the Big 10 he made in High School.
I am no authority on running back skills by any reach of the imagination but studying film of good backs and dissecting their weakness or bad traits as a line backer charged with the run stopper duty is and I have over the last few months watched literally every scrap of even bad cellphone video of Jaylin and I can say this much with no worries at all .......This young man has ALL THE SKILLS OF A NFL CALIBER STARTING RUNNING BACK.......Not only does he have that uncanny ability of having FAST football speed.... ( meaning late 3rd quarter ability to find another gear and the elusiveness needed to leave tired defenders in his wake....Speed )....He has good hands and can catch low or off speed ducks like from a Quarterback running for his life.....But he also has the leg strength to run over and carry potential tacklers 2-3 extra yards after contact in the 2nd level......In a nutshell he is just the type of back that Nebraska has been so well known for over the years and the kind that will give Defensive Coordinator's nightmares.....He reminds me so much of Ahman Green another Nebraska Back who went on and did great things after College except Bradley has bigger hands and can hang on to the ball better.

If they are going to throw him in the mix this fall that speaks volumes to me about his maturity and ability to handle the tough road through the Big 10.....

If he sees the field much this year he just might well wind up being one of the best we have ever produced out of Nebraska

Again my opinions are based on what I see from a Linebackers point of view.....If I were still playing today he would be a huge challenge to put a leash on I promise you that cause he is gonna get his yards no matter how good your D is.....The trick is to limit the damage he does is the best you can hope for cause if your 1 step out of position on him.......It's too late.....He will make you pay.

OWH (or OWG)/Kaipust article in question.

Side note: If anyone is having trouble with the OWH paywall, you could try using private browsing, some claim that works but I've never tried because I don't care enough to read most local newspaper articles ;P Back to the Bradley discussion now!

I just set my browser to block cookies from Omaha.com and Journalstar.com.

Thanks NC......And by the way we get the OWH delivered to the house but it's always a day late so I downloaded the app that the OWH is behind called Big Red Today ....It has a lot of the podcast from a show called TBL (the bottom line) but aside from that they put almost all the Husker Sports Relevant Stories on it each day...
It's quicker for Kate and I to check on all Husker Sports stories that way.
Kate can follow the Girls Volleyball stuff and of course we both can keep up to date with Football, Basketball and Baseball but the app does include all Husker Sports from the Match Shooting Team to the Bowling team and everything just about in between.

But back to Jaylin.....I just found it interesting that the staff thinks enough of his obvious talent to perhaps NOT use a redshirt....And "throw him in the mix" to see if he can handle it, though it does kinda make a person wonder if they do indeed use this fall's Practices to see if he can handle the job really what does that then say ? To me it speaks of a feeling among the Staff that they need a guy who can step in and be a real force at the Running Back spot...I can vividly remember seeing Oregon St. When they had the Rogers brothers....They used them in some fashion in about 80% of the plays they called on Offense....Either as a motion fake of some sort or misdirection type action.....Lots of eye candy to try and keep the Linebacker's frozen for even a 2 count was enough to allow the Quarterbacks they had then to get the ball out and to an open man.....And until I see different from Riley and Langsdorf that is exactly what I expect them to do when they do find the one guy they are looking for.....Funny I can not remember Oregon St. Ever going after or using a bigger Lawrence Phillips type running back that could power his way as well as use moves and finesse to run around defenders.....They always used a smaller type Jaquiz Rogers type guy who was like a pin ball in an arcade game and just bounced off people and kept right on going unless you drove into and through his legs.....You really had to pay attention to tackling and wrap up the legs to stop a guy like that....I do know as the game wears on if you start to get frustrated and tired of trying to tackle a guy like that and loose your focus for 1 play.....That all it took and Rogers was gone before you knew it......But also this is not the finesse land of the Pac 12 either this is the ground and pound black and blue land of the Big 10 where a smaller guy might start to show his wear by mid season where a bigger back the likes of say Wisconsin uses is just starting to hit his stride about mid season and gets stronger the longer you play him.....Of course meaning the Defense has simply been worn down by the constant onslaught barrage of play after play of a big guy hammering out 4-6 yards per play in the first half that become 6-9 yard plays late in the game......To me anyway Jaylin Bradley is a true "tweener" then.....A good mix of size and speed but big enough to hammer you right into the ground by the end of the 3rd Quarter. I thought the guy was going to be Ziggy but I'm thinking they are going to use him more as a situational type back and I have never been a fan of that......It tips your hand and says...."Ok....Here we come now try to stop it !"and that's all well and good IF you have a dominant run game line who at any time can push their way up and down the field......Again something we were used to having every year but got away from and are now going back to thank god.

So bottom line here in my eyes "IF" Bradley can show he is mature enough to put his focus where it needs to be.....And he is indeed able to translate his High School play to Memorial Stadium...Against the rest of the Big 10 Defenses......It could be an exciting year for that young man.

Sorry to ramble on but I wanted to illustrate why I feel the way I do about one of my favorite subjects......"Just Run the Damn Ball"

Go Big Red !
