Jason Peter and Jay Foreman now on "staff"

I agree, Husker99. My point, if there really was one, is that we fans shouldn't make too much of it.

I only said it because it was the type of news that would have gotten me all excited not-that-many years ago.

Oh believe me...

As Husker fans, we're absolutely success starved.

We'll tend to believe whatever "positivity" comes down the pipe no matter how ludicrous and far fetched it sound.

That being said, I was trying to poke holes into the idea that Foreman and Peter volunteering was a pointless thing, and maybe it's because I lack imagination, but I couldn't think of a single negative.

We have a bad ass OL with those young guys. They moved the Rutgers D (which has to High round NFL guys on it IMO) all night long. Corcoran is going to win some major accolades before he leaves NU.
They have Hixson, Nouili, Sichterman, Conn,Banks and I'm missing two others likely, to vie for the lone guard spot, we are two deep, and not some MR two deep, but guys like Hixson and Sichterman were expected next man up last year, weve had younger guys pass them up, yet theyve stayed and still may get another shot, but as seasoned juniors/seniors like the old days.
Things are heading in the right direction when things are as they should be,finally, just need a tad bit more seasoning, which will be early this year/season.
Its possible steel sharpening steel happens too, as the D will make things very hard for them in practices, and theyll be ready out the gate

They have to change their blocking approach. If they are that big and strong they need to emphasize that. Stop relying on style points in blocking technique. Hit someone, hurt someone, and wear them out.

we have a very quick center. He makes his first block, then runs down field but doesn’t hit anyone.

If you want a run game, you have to have an OL that gets to the linebackers.

That's because they are scared to death of Jurgens and run away from him as fast as they can :)

Some may think what the hell do I know about offensive line play....the answer is simple,
Uncle Milt Tenopir and I played with and know some of the very best linemen to ever wear the "N".
You cant hang around or hang with these big nasty guys and NOT LEARN from them even if it's just by being in proximity to them...and every single one of them said to me either in person, by text or during phone calls that the line who played the majority of the Rutgers game was the best group as a group they have seen at NU in a loooooooong time and this grouping of mostly first or 2nd year guys if they could stay together and serious injury free had the tenacity and willpower and raw power to not only carry the Offense a long way but based on what they saw....should be able to get us about anyplace the rest of the offense wants to do or go. I pressed them each to explain and a couple said all the way to the Conference Title game and the rest said as far as the rest of the offense can go....meaning they are only limited by their own skill and heart and desire as to how far the offense could go. I asked "All the way to the playoffs?" and to a man they all said "with their raw talent and obvious way they worked so well together as a unit...as far as they want to go!"
"Its up to us to point this group in the right direction" and of course I had to ask what they meant by that and they would just say....you will see little buddy.......you will see.
Look I'm still over 6'2" and a very trim 245# and even though some of them are not much bigger than me any longer I will always be the "little Buddy" I guess ....upper classmen and classmates who were Husker Linemen....sheesh they are still the big nasty's to me I guess you never do loose that attitude.

Doc....I can't help but have the utmost respect for you and your posts. Heck, i even scan the board for your write ups. But I can't go in to the husker season without being completely guarded with my optimism. I've been burned to many times. I kno w the oline looked good against rutgers, but im holding out until the OU game to make any determinations as where we stand.

Doc, I would think you would know quite a bit about Offensive Linemen. I'm betting that you took on a FEW guards during your time playing for the Huskers...... :D

Wise Choice for you. For me our success begins and ends with the Offensive Line to make it possible to score points like we have seen this offense demonstrate it can do when we run the ball more than throw it and With The Defensive line and linebackers ability to stop the run and to not give opposing teams QB's time to get comfortable and pick us apart....we do that by constantly making plays on that side of the ball and if we can do that and can keep him running and getting hit and beat up his receivers won't have a chance to catch their breath let alone the ball.

But in the final analysis of any game if your O line can play smart clean football and your D line can stuff the run period and knock their QB around all game long.....your going to be successful and win alot of games.

Yes I did and have the scars and broken fingers to prove it....I was much happier when their line opened a hole in our line which believe it or not we sometimes let them do on purpose just so who ever had that read could meet their Running Back, Man on Man in the hole and the low man with the biggest WHACK won!...luckily for me I never had to much grey matter to loose to begin with and I had a reputation for "rising to the occasion" shall we say and REALLY laying the pads on many a Running Back !

You know you did good when Coach Mac came 5 yards onto the field to meet you with a grin on his face but it always meant more to me when our entire O line met me on the sidelines with applause and "YEAH THATS HOW YOU DO IT!".....but when Coach Osborne gave you a pat on the helmet and said "Great Job" or "Way to tackle" that was the ultimate validation to earn his trust and praise.

Post Game film sessions with Coach Mac and Osborne was Perdy cool too....to hear all my teammates holler and yell when I stuffed some poor backs bags for him and sent him to the bus...I gotta admit it was a bit embarrassing, but man what a good feeling as they all hooted and hollered !
Those were the times I lived for and remember like it was yesterday.

You hit on something there. The other side of the ball stayed alert and watched the game not just replays on the screen. Seems like when they get off the field now they mentally check out.

Doc,
Great description. This youg OLine I too agree has no ceiling. As long as they can stay healthy they'll take us far. They remind me of a Young Pipeline from back in the 90s. If they keep devleoping and playing like they did against Rutgers they are going to open lots of holes that my mom could run through for a TD. Won't matter who is the QB, RB, etc. They have the potential to be that good if not better than those OLines of the past.
