So I know with our record (assuming we beat IA) will be 5-7 and most likely out of the bowl picture....

But I got to thinking tonight, with the momentum we have right now and how we always travel to bowl games, what do you think are the chances that a bowl committee would pick us over a team with one more win than us?

I would think that we would have to at least be in some conversations based on the second half of the season.

Thoughts? Thanks, I'll hang up and listen. :)

In 5 out of the last 7 seasons 5 win teams have gone to bowls. So there is hope. However, I don't know how we rank among the 5 win teams for the selection committee. Most likely Iowa is our bowl game, but there is hope.

There's always a possibility and the extra bowl practices would be nice. However I'm not hanging my hat on that. Let's beat Iowa and let the chips fall where they may. Treat Iowa as our bowl game and kick them in the teeth until they have no more. :)

Why stop there?

Something about the number of transfers to the team also prevents a bowl game.

These guys need time in the weight room as much as anything...

Don't hold me to these numbers as exact because its 3:00 in the morning but as best as I can tell there 71 qualified teams for the 78 spots. There are 21 teams with 5 wins that puts them in. Now the good news is that most of these teams aren't necessarily great teams and their chances of winning aren't real good. Last week only 7 teams that were on the 5 win line won their game to qualify. The other bad news is of the 5 win teams we have at least two of them ahead of us in Academic progress rankings. That is Minnesota and Vanderbilt. Its also possible there are some 4 win teams that could go to 5 with a win next week that are also ahead of us in the academic rankings but that number is probably small. So to have any chance, only about 4 of those 21 teams can win next week unless those wins are by Minnesota or Vanderbilt.

.
Interesting. I didn't know that.

IMO we have three main jobs in the near future......1) Beat Iowa. 2) hit the recruiting trail.....hard. 3) Hit the weight room.

If a miracle happens and we end up at a bowl, I'd be glad to add a fourth.

No. There are a lot of average teams this year with average records and our APR is down due to transfers.

So, Iowa is our bowl game. A good case could be made that yesterday was our bowl game - last home game for our Seniors. I loved just about every minute of that game as not one player gave up.

Next week, they will play their hearts out at Iowa and come away with another victory!

GO BIG RED!

apparently a bowl game is NOT a possibility

transfer rule prevents it

the record prevents it

the number of qualified teams prevents it

not going to happen...

Well said, Uenth! For all the hoopla about bowl games, yesterday's thriller was more special and memorable to me than two-thirds of the Husker bowl games I've watched over the years. I can't recall them all but yesterday's Senior Day certainly has to rank as one of the best Senior Send-offs we've had in recent memory.

Yesterday we gutted out a win in the Slobberknocker Bowl. Now we have the opportunity to end our season by kicking some Hawkeye butt in the Dirty Bird Bowl. :)

And as much as I'd like Frost & Co. LLC to get one more game of experience in and a chance to have the seniors get one last time on the field.... I'm still just REALLY opposed to teams with losing records getting in.

Too many meaningless bowl games.
