Given that Anthony Colandrea led the UNLV Rebels to four fourth quarter, come-from-behind wins last season, I was curious what the career numbers were for our Husker QBs over the past 20 years. Thanks to ChatGPT, I was able to answer that question. The most in modern history belongs to Tommy Armstrong with six. Taylor Martinez has 5 and is the only Husker to equal the number Colandrea had in a single season: 4 back in 2012. Here's the list:

Tommy Armstrong: 6 wins
(2013, at Penn State, 23-20, OT)
(2014, McNeese State, 31-24) *He threw a little swing pass to Ameer
(2014, at Iowa, 37-34, OT)
(2015, Mich. State, 39-38)
(2016, Oregon, 35-32)
(2016, Minnesota, 24-17)
Taylor Martinez: 5 wins
(2011, Ohio State, 34-27)
(2012, Wisconsin, 30-27)
(2012, at Northwestern, 29-28)
(2012, at Mich. State, 28-24)
(2012, Penn State, 32-23)
Adrian Martinez: 2 wins
(2018, Mich. St., 9-6), * Snowy Slobberknocker game.
(2019, at Illinois, 42-38)
Zac Taylor: 1 win (2006, at Texas A&M, 28-27) *Engineered a beautiful last-gasp TD drive.
Sam Keller: 1 win (2007, Ball State, 41-40)
Joey Ganz: 1 win (2008, Colorado, 40-31) * Thanks to a record FG by Alex Henery
Zac Lee: 1 win (2009, at Mizzou, 17-12) * Trailed 12-0 going into the 4th.
Ron Kellogg: 1 win (2013, Northwestern, 27-24) *Hail Mary
Tanner Lee: 1 win 2017, at Purdue, 25-24)
Casey Thompson: 1 win (2022, at Rutgers, 14-13)
Dylan Raiola: 1 win (2025, at Maryland, 34-31)

Fun list! Any chance your curiosity got you to tweak it to see how many chances there were for a comeback? I feel like Adrian had about 20.

Nice stats. Don't know about anyone else but I'd prefer to have no one on that list as we should NEVER EVER be in the position of needing to come from behind in the 4th to begin with. That's my take on it all. However should we fall behind, we dang sure need to pull the game out. We all know the name of the game in our recent history is to lose by one score and multiple times each season. :sigh:

Listen, it's better than being ahead after three quarters then losing the game in the fourth. That's happened 11 times in the past 20 years.

Pelini: 3 times.
  • 2009 Iowa St.,
  • 2011 Michigan,
  • 2014 Iowa.
Riley 2 times.
  • 2015 Illinois,
  • 2017 Northwestern.
Frost 6 times. ugh.
  • 2018 Northwestern
  • 2018 Ohio State
  • 2019 Indiana
  • 2021 Michigan
  • 2021 Michigan State
  • 2021 Iowa
Rhule. 0 times.

That's kinda what I'm alluding to, you just must wax more poetic than I. :yay:

So in Rhule’s 19 losses, he’s never had the lead going into the 4th? That’s pretty grim also.

I'm no BHF Poet Laureate like @Hunchback Johnny but I try. :)

It's called taking over a B1G program that hadn't had a winning record since 2016. Look at Vandy in the SEC. Colandrea could be Rhule's 2026 version of Jeff Sims but on the other hand, he could be the difference-maker on offense we've been missing. It took a difference-making QB---Diego Pavia--to turn around sadsack Vandy's fortunes.

To paraphrase the lyrics of Mrs. Robinson, an old Simon & Garfunkel Classic: Where have you gone Taylor Martinez, Husker Nation turns its lonely eyes to you?"
