How petty can you be?

HuskerVotary wondered if his lack of dislike for DR made him a bad fan. Obviously not, but my personal level of pettiness has gone up recently. Generally, I can take criticism about the program from a fellow fan with a level of equanimity, but a non-Husker football fan says anything negative, it gets my hackles up. I'm notably more sensitive this year.

Honestly, Frost beat it out of me. I get crap all the time here in Ohio and don't even bother responding.

I'm in line w/ Ohio on this. My optmism meter started high when Frostie got hired. Started edging down when he made boasts right out of the chute, before a game was played.

Give the program he presented in the following seasons, he'd teed us up for a LOT of smarta** shi* from opposing fans or even just observers. Most of it was hard to argue with. His pressers, where he looked like a homeless guy w/ a hangover, made it worse.

I developed a thick skin. Had to. Still have it.

Having grown up with the Blueblood Huskers being equivalent to today's Ohio State and Alabama, I've had to eat A LOT of humble pie the last 25 years. I was convinced (still am) that you can't keep a Blueblood down forever but watched as the Nebraska Braintrust kept making mistake after mistake.

I'm still optimistic but I have learned to outwardly laugh it off while inwardly gritting my teeth at criticisms from non-fans. But if it's a shot at Nebraska from a TV or internet pundit, my blood pressure rises and I turn into the Incredible Hulk.

Still, what keeps me going is the reassurance that, after a head-shaking decade of utter incompetence, the program is back on solid footing.

One thing I'll say is that I think they are doing an incredible job with the game day experience. That's going to help recruiting and probably NIL to a degree.

I'm glad we're back in Nebraska. It would suck still living in KS so there's that. As far as what other people may say about the Huskers, I have no problem telling people to "BITE ME!". Guess that means I really don't give three shite's what anyone else says about the team.

A lot of it is just perspective. In any conference other than the Big or SEC, this team would be a leader. In the Big, you need and NFL contender at every position to compete. They are getting closer but not there yet.

Having lived out of state for most of the last 4 or 5 decades, being an avid fan has humbled me. My smirk is gone. Going from expecting to win all games to WTF has made me reexamine my values. Loses used to ruin my day, now it lasts about half an hour, and I convince myself it is only a game.
