Greatest Husker Performances of All-Time

How about Cory Schlesinger and the whole team in '95 vs. Miami? And Tommie saying to Sapp (reportedly) Don't worry about where I been, fat boy, worry about where I'm going. After all the near misses and disappointments I don't mind admitting I broke down and cried after that game.

Favorite Frazier quote EVER!!!

Taylor Martinez in 2010 as a true freshman against K-State. He’d come out of nowhere and those looong TD runs like he was shot out of a freakin’ gun. Martinez had touchdown runs of 14, 35, 80, and 41 yards. I was giddy watching that game. He was going to fix everything. He did almost as much against UDub that same season.

Also his run with Team Jack in the Spring Game.

Anthony Steels - Iowa State 1981
When it comes to most memorable Husker performances, Anthony Steels certainly gave one on Senior Day against Iowa State back in 1981. But maybe not the way you'd think.

Back in the 80s, Lincolnite and former Broadway Star, Gordon McCray used to perform the national anthem. So fans were used to kick-butt performances. But in the days leading up to the Iowa State game, it was announced that senior WR, Anthony 'Slick' Steels would be singing the anthem as part of Senior Day. Nobody was sure what to expect when he came on the field in his full uniform to sing it. I think every fan in the Stadium was blown away when Slick gave one of those "America's Got Talent Golden Buzzer"-type performances. It gave me goosebumps and I'm sure I wasn't the only one.

It turned out to be a memorable afternoon for a whole bunch of reasons. Going into the fourth quarter, the score was tied 7-7. Whether it was a coincidence or not, after it was announced on the Stadium loudspeaker that Mizzou had upset OU, Nebraska scored 24 points to break the game open, including a capper touchdown by Steels.

Nebraska's win combined with OU's loss gave the Huskers the outright Big Eight championship. I remember it was a downright giddy Memorial Stadium crowd that left the stadium that day.

If TM wouldn't have been hurt in that Missouri game that year he would have been really something. He shouldn't have been playing a lot after that and probably made it worse. Anyway yes TM was great but holy smokes he coulda been even better.

Yeah, TM was the real deal until he got hurt. Wasn't given the chance to heal completely and that was that. Would love to have seen what he could have been without the injury or if the injury had healed completely.

Didnt Bo try to play him the following week against ISU?

No, but he played every game the rest of the season -- and the conference championship game -- even though he was still hobbling. Hindsight is always 100%. But looking back, he probably should have sat out the rest of the season to fully recover. It turned out, he was never the same player after that injury against Missouri.

It kept him from passing the team doctor exam when he reported to the Eagles.

I’ll go with an important game, (team performance) instead of an individual performance.
On Sept 29, 1962 Bob Devaney kick started a languishing cellar dweller Nebraska program when they beat the Michigan Wolverines 24-13 in Ann Arbor. As a young boy I listened to that game on a tractor radio. That game also kick started me that day to being a life long Husker fan. I couldn’t wrap my head around the fact that there were 70,287 fans in the Big House that day. Most Big 8 stadiums held about 35-40,000. Anyway, that game caught the attention of the nation and our fans. The HUSKERS gained a mindset that day that launched us into 5 National Championships dozens of conference championships and dozens of bowl games, 403 home sellouts. I’m thinking that this year we can “Go Back to the Future” in 1962 when we play Michigan, and recapture that HUSKER mojo that we lost.

Cory Ross - Michigan State
In our 17-3 bowl win, I remember “Pork Chop” pounding the rock all night long. I thought he carried the ball over 40 times that game for one hundred and thirtysomerging yards but it was actually 38 times (but that was still enough to be an all-time school record,)
