Just curious how many BHF's are staying home versus traveling to a relative's home (close or far away) for Christmas.

We are holing up in our humble abode. Making King's Cheese Frenchies and home made french fries for the day. I'll start quilting on my first customer project using my new machine.

Merry Christmas to All!

Merry Christmas! And YAY to Cheese Frenchies. Do you have a bigger fryer or how do you cook them?

We're staying home- have for about 15 years. Driving Christmas in a Minnesota winter always made the trip home a real challenge.

Staying home. No place like home for the holidays.

We just moved into a new home in March, so it is our first Christmas in our new home. Pretty excited to celebrate God's blessings here in our new place.

Two rambunctious dogs, one bad back and RTB's bad leg make staying home a necessity; despite my having a brother in Iowa who always invites us.

Cheese Frenchies are definitely one of God's greatest gifts to us, IMO. We don't make them real often as they are not exactly a health food, especially when paired with RTB's home made French Fries. We don't have a Fry Daddy but you can grill them the same as grilled cheese. I go through about a stick of real butter. I just grill them at a lower temperature because the key to a tasty Cheese Frenchie is making sure that the cheese and mayo meld together. If the cheese is still cold or luke warm when you bite into them, they didn't get cooked long enough.

I'll post the recipe when I get a chance. It's supposed to be the recipe that King's used back in the day. Tastes just as I remember them.

Just with family and friends (sometimes these two groups merge.....and sometimes they don't:)).

I do have plans after the holidays however......right to the nearest weight watchers group. We are signed up to ride mules down the Grand Canyon, and I've been informed the weight limit is a firm 200 lbs. I might be perilously close to having to follow the mules on foot;)

I'm going to be spending more time on the stationary bike after Christmas is over. I've been eating way too much but figure it's futile to fight it until Christmas has passed.

The ride down the Grand Canyon sounds like a good time. It's been years since I've been there but it is beautiful as I recall.

Yeah- they GOTTA be deep fried. I used to work at a restaurant that was a former King's and made a million of them - but we had big time deep fryers

I know they would be better deep fried but we do this about 4 times a year and other wise don't deep fry anything, so, I grill them in lots of butter and say close enough.

After peeking at the scales this morning, I'm afraid your Guide would take look at me and expect one of his mules to ride me. :)

Regarding travel, I sympathize with anyone traveling over the holidays. It's bad under any circumstances but particularly with small children. Back in the day, I used to drive my wife and two children 24 hours by minivan from Virginia to Nebraska for a family Christmas in Fairbury and Omaha and then back home again.

After it was all over, I used to wish I could take a vacation to recover from my Christmas vacation!

LOL, DrF! We used to travel from Leavenworth to Grand Island with 3 cats and 3 dogs in tow. One memorable trip home, one cat barfed over the other two (at least that was in the cat carrier) and one of the dogs got sick all over the back seat.

We stopped at a Missouri Rest Stop and I ventured into the Ladies Room with the cat carrier and cleaned up the cats as best as I could. RTB was tasked with cleaning up the back seat and then cleaning up Bart in the Men's Room.

At that point, I was so tempted to leave all 6 of our furries there and if they were still there on the return trip great; if not great. Calmer heads prevailed and the 8 of us made it to GI and back to Leavenworth. After that, we learned about house sitters. Made for a much more stress free visit home.
