Just wondering if Gebbia ever left or tweeted any messages about his experience here in Nebraska. Often times when a player leaves a program, they will thank the school for their experience, say some kind things about their former teammates, and wish the school well. Just wondering.

I think the written farewell from transfers in social media is meaningless obligatory pap. Deeds... not words, show their true feelings. Adios Gebbia, we hardly knew ye.

Pretty sure he knew what was coming from Husker fans and decided to duck out without a peep. He knew the backlash was coming; he had to.

Nothing. And if he did he would have gotten thousands of nasty tweets thrown at him. The way he left it is best to just sever ties.

He did actually- there was a nicely worded message from him on one of the platforms... not in a place to look for it now.

His departure notice was kind too IIRC

Oh yea, he had a message on Twitter and it was very nice. I can't remember the exact words but loosely translated it said "Head coach Scott Frost is trying to change the culture of the team here and IT'S ALL ABOUT THE TEAM". I love that until I'm not the starter and then Daddy told me to take my ball and go home.

P.S. Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah.

I am not gonna bag on the kid. He left because it saved him a year. I can't hate on him for that.it hurt the team but it's not devastating. I hope he does well as a beaver but I don't see that school ever being good

I've gotta hand it to you, RED ED, this is a very mature and classy response to the whole Gebbia thing. Well done!

But it does make me feel a bit self-conscious about having 'liked' the immature and rude one by Nebraska99 right before yours.

I also felt like Gebbia's father was the impetus behind his leaving. One day he told Frost he was staying (no worries) and the next he was outta here. I thought it stunk but it wasn't an unexpected thing to me. I would have been far more surprised had Gebbia actual stayed here and busted his @ss to learn the new system.

Hopefully, it won't cost us anything in the long run. Looking forward to a Big Red "W" on Saturday!!

Yea, it was admittedly childish on my part but damn, I'm frustrated. Seriously frustrated.

We've been average to mediocre for pretty much all of this new century and we get a chance to turn it around and he ditches us. He could have been a part of something special. Hell, he might even have been starting this Saturday and had a chance to prove himself.

I guess I'm a part of a different generation that had a different definition of commitment.

If one end of the spectrum is hoping he wins the heisman, and the other end is that he dies in a house fire after suffering from herpes, I would be right smack in the middle. I think thats called "indifferent".

Hey, no need to apologize. I was just joking around with you, 99. I really did like it. :)

While I sort of understand the 'three year starter' potential (though no guarantee, OSU is now starting a sophomore QB), Gebbia gave up a chance to be on a special team this fall. Not only could he have been the hero last Saturday, he'd be the starting QB in front of 90,000 fanatics this Saturday if he'd stayed.

I know these kids are all thinking NFL. But the hard truth is that most of them will never make it, especially college QBs. When all is said and done, it's those special moments in college ball that last a lifetime. I'm pretty sure Jordan Westerkamp still longs to make an NFL squad. Most likely, he won't at this point. But if he'll still have some incredible memories and youtube highlights to share with his grandkids about his days as a Cornhusker.

I'm almost 50 and I still try to honor my dad's wishes. This kid is just in the unfortunate position of having his every move and decision scrutinized. I'm glad I didn't have my life under a microscope.

TG also had the misfortune of competing for a starting job against Adrian Martinez. After seeing AM play, the fact that Gebbia took the competition into game week tells you all you need to know about what a competitor he was.

Given the way he battled, it also makes it awfully hard for me to believe he walked away of his own accord. It's just a shame that all the time and effort this "gym rat" put in went unrewarded.

It comes down to he did it at the wrong time. Lee and O'Brien we had no beef with because it was a decision made well before fall camp and if we would have felt the need to bring in another QB we could have. If Gebbia had left in the summer we would have been fine with it. The issue is that he asked for his release 6 days before the opening game and left us with no option of bringing in depth and time to develop that depth, basically leaving the team a player short at a key position. It's all about the timing in this case. No impact to him and all the impact on the team, therefore putting the individual above the team.

He was never going to beat out Adrian and he knew it. ergo the bolt.
