As we head into the meat of our B1G season, how is our transfer portal class faring?
Frankly, it's hard to evaluate some of them because you don't know: a) what we paid to get them; and b) whether we looked at them immediately as step-in starters or as development players. Anyhoo, here goes...

Williams Nwaneri - Edge
Co-First String. We're told he seems to have found his groove. But his stats vs Michigan was limited to 3 assisted tackles.

Dane Key - WR
First String - His catches and yardage to date has been (IMO) a bit underwhelming, especially against Michigan.

Rocco Spindler - OG
First String - He seems to be holding up his end.

Nyziah Hunter - WR
First String - After questions during fall camp, he became a stand-out receiver once the games started. He's been more productive than Key at this point.

Elijah Prittchett - OT
Third String - The fact he's third string after the Michigan game tells you all you need to know. He may still develop into a NFL-caliber tackle but I doubt we can afford to pay big bucks for a third string project.

Dasan McCullough - Jack
First String - Not blowing me away but seems solid.

Hardley Gilmore - WR
GONE in Weeks

Marques Watson-Trent - LB
Co-First String - Seems solid but his stats vs Michigan were limited to 3 assisted tackles.

Andrew Marshall - CB
First String - And a Stud!!! Some folks questioned taking him since he came from Idaho but he's been a great pick-up!

Marcos Davilla - QB
Fourth String - I'm not sure what we were supposed to expect for this season but he showed little in fall camp.

Justin Rhett - CB
Nowhere on the depth chart.

Jamir Conn - CB
Backing up Harzog at Nickel

Jaylen George - DL
Nowhere on the depth chart.

Gabe Moore - DL
Third String Nose Guard - but he's only a Sophomore.

Kevin Gallic - Long Snapper
First String and a Stud Performer!

Jack McCallister - Punter
GONE - Replaced by a freshman from Australia.

What do you all think?

I think Key has done fine and may have just been underutilized against Michigan. I think he's our best deep threat but DR couldn't wait for him to get open. He served more as a decoy.
My biggest, by far, disappointment of the transfers is Pritchett. He got a healthy payday and hasn't shown the inclination to stay focused. I remember getting unhinged at our OT situation in the off season and watched as other, slightly more NIL expensive Tackles were taken by other teams. It seems to me, we would have been better served coming up with the difference it would take to get Isaiah World who ended up at Oregon. We paid almost as much for a stud and currently have a dud. I can only hope things get turned around for Pritchett.

Heard on HuskerOnline that they paid Pritchett

Given we're still 3-1, and held our own vs. Michigan...I think you should put a little more wine in your 1/2 empty glass. :-)

It was hard to throw against the MU defense especially when they centered on DR. The dud here is Holgerson for failure to anticipate the MU game plan, dont let DR beat us.

Could we have done more at Oline? Maybe - Prittchet being mentally weak was probably predictable based on what he did at Bama. That is a bad coaching/staff decision IMHO.

Dline - I'm not sure we were close on anyone else in the portal. DT is one of the hardest positions to find guys for - hence the need to do it via normal recruiting and stacking depth.

Disagree on the above bolded statement. Sometimes, simply a different coach/approach is able to get a player to respond. The NIL for that particular player on the other hand...

But that’s the real issue with coaches. So many of them seem to think I can get more out of this player than his last coach. Sometimes they are right, usually they aren’t.

I hope the NIL deals are set yearly so that way evaluation can be determined. If not they should be

Maybe - but some dudes can't be lead to reach their full potential. I think that is the case with our overpaid OT. Now....I hate picking on players - so I blame the coaches for the problem. Either via how the choice was made to recruit him or via not making the connection to allow improvement. On them either way IMHO.

I see no problem with "picking on" players any longer. They are professionals being paid handsomely and in this case underperforming. This guy is a 20-year-old getting paid this year what many of us have to work 10-12 years to earn. How many false starts has the entire offensive line had this year? How many have been called on Pritchett? This is a player problem, not a coaching problem. And believe me, I am no fan of Don Raiola.

Actually all that money should be pooled for each team and then distributed equally to each player, its a team sport

I'm not sure of the correlation between my statement and yours, but in what world are all players paid equally in a team sport? You think Dylan Raiola and Eric Ingwerson should receive the same compensation? Help me understand your position.

I wouldn't be surprised to see a lot more of Pritchett this week against Michigan State.

Are you implying someone lit a metaphorical fire under his keyster?
Or maybe he realized on his own he needed better effort?
Or maybe he matches up better against the MSU front than he did the MU front?

Regardless, he, and all of our OTs, definitely need to play better and more physical.

Without a team there is no DR.. They all contribute, in other words there is no I in team. You said he is paid hansomely for a 20 yo,,,will most people on this board would be lucky to make that dough ray me in their lifetime.
