Hopefully the CU fans will be more...….mellow lol. After they had decades of sometimes, severe beatings at the hand of the Big Red, one gets a lil out of sorts. The stories are many from fans that ventured to Colorado and were abused. Some stories true and yes some exaggerated to liven the Red Horde. It's always good to see those from the old Big Eight. Kansas, KSU, ISU and of course OU and Colorado.
I recall being at the old Orange Bowl watching the OU rematch in Miami. The TV timeouts were long and the OU and NU fans amused themselves with cheers that one would not hear on national TV for fear of fines from the power that be. OU would chant something vile across the stadium and the NU cheerleaders would have a response on large cardboard signs with their own.....ummm…… interesting chants. It was a real hoot. It was a great time even if the game was like kissing your sister. That is a rematch of inconsequential importance.
Hopefully the blue smoke drifting from the CU student section will ahhh…….dampen the spirit of the event from their prospective. Yeah right...…. That ain't gunna happen. This is what college football is all about. Grudges and memories of unwanted defeats. Loved it when NU, CU and OU were rated one, two and three in the poles. The SEC has had those years lately when several were rated in the top of the heap. Maybe we see that in the BIG real soon.
So far Colorado has been that distant step-child of the Blur-smoke conference.. Oregon Stanford, USC seem to be the big dogs in the family. CU with a new coach wants to be relevant again. Anywhere.... sound familiar. So I can understand their craving for a little success, and beating another up and comer with a common history is that springboard for both. Will NU be undefeated when the Buckeyes call? Will CU have a notch on their six gun before they see their conference. It's truly a great setup for both. I believe with the history of the past few decades this is a real rivalry now. Even if it's just now and then.
