Colandrea Ranked in Bottom Half of B1G

Colandrea's current PFF rating is 91.5? wow.

Former Husker target, Kenny Minchey's PFF score after Kentucky's opener against Youngstown State was 62.8. It was 38.3 against Bama for a combined total of 47.3.

I know it's still early, but I've seen enough to want to thank Kentucky for jumping in at the eleventh hour last January with a big wad of money and "screwing us over."

FYI, Pro Football Focus (PFF) grades are broken down into specific categories:
  • 90.0 and above: Elite (All-Pro caliber performance)
  • 80.0–89.9: High Quality / Good
  • 70.0–79.9: Above Average
  • 60.0–69.9: Average (Standard, serviceable starter)
  • 50.0–59.9: Below Average
  • 49.9 or lower: Poor / Terrible

91.5 is elite. Let's look at our 5-star QB the last 2 seasons......

During his two seasons at Nebraska (2024–2025) before transferring to Oregon, quarterback Dylan Raiola posted the following Pro Football Focus (PFF) grades:
  • 2024 (Freshman Season): He earned a 71.5 passing grade. This provided immediate stability to the Cornhuskers' offense, representing a massive upgrade over the team's 42.4 PFF grade from the previous season.
  • 2025 (Sophomore Season): He finished the year with a 63.2 overall offensive grade and a 63.7 passing grade.
Statistical Deep Dives (2025)
Raiola excelled on intermediate and deep throws but struggled heavily when facing defensive pressure:
  • Deep Passing (20+ Yards): 86.7 passing grade (including a country-leading adjusted completion rate on throws over 10+ yards early in the season).
  • Kept Clean: 73.8 passing grade.
  • Under Pressure: 36.7 passing grade (he was plagued by sacks in losses against teams like Minnesota and Michigan State).
I'm not stupid - AC10's PFF will come down when he faces tougher defenses.....but DR15 NEVER played at this level and that's a fact Jack!

For all the hype, our 5-star was average at best his entire time here. Him leaving for Oregon was the best thing that could've happened to us.

I know I wasn't alone here in expressing some concern when word got out that Kenny Minchey was our top portal prospect. He had the look and came from Notre Dame--but with very limited playing experience. I know Hunch and a couple others of you here (sorry, my memory isn't what it used to be) joined me in opining that UNLV's Colandrea would be a better pick-up.

Looking back, it's one of those deals where (I think) the coaching staff got overly enamored with his size and weight. Colandrea is "listed" as 6'0" and 200 lbs but the word is that's stretching both measurements a bit. :)

Just goes to show (again) that you can't measure heart nor undervalue game experience

I read this little diddy from the UK Wildcatswire regarding Minchey last Saturday:

"It was a tough week for Kentucky Wildcats quarterback Kenny Minchey, along with the rest of the offense. After jumping out to a 17-13 halftime lead against the Alabama Crimson Tide, the wheels fell off in the second half, and were outscored 32-0 in the second half, resulting in a blowout loss.

Minchey, in particular, looked overwhelmed and much less confident than he did in week one. He wound up completing 18-of-31 passes for 146 yards, 1 touchdown, and 1 interception. He also had a fumble, and posted just a 44.6 QBR."

Later on, the author said: "hopefully, he should improve as he gets more starting experience." :)

Okay...guys, c'mon. I know we're all excited at Colandrea's performance in the first two games, but Heisman and Playoff talk? I think y'all need to not just pump the brakes, I think you need to slam on the brakes AND pull the emergency brake because this is getting out of hand. Thus far we've played exactly zero conference games.

Where is the Heisman and Playoff talk? I must have missed it.

Yeah, excitement about how our offense is looking is not allowed. tsk-tsk! The only 'pedal-to-the-metal' opinions encouraged are "we suck" ones.

That is a purposeful misunderstanding of my post, Doc.

...and find one of those runaway truck ramps. Just for in case.

He looked good last night in Eugene against a hapless opponent One thing does stick out, 11/11 passing and 3 TD s with 2 called back for penalties

Okay, Raiola looked good in his Duck mop-up debut with three TDs . But his vibe—even against Portland State—felt deliberate.

In contrast, Colandrea plays the game with a sense of urgency that just isn’t DR’s MO. That said, they are both good QBs.

He played the entire second half. His line play was great and gave him protection that would be necessary for the B1G.
