Colandrea back for 2027

Having had a moment to reflect, I realize this is HORRIBLE news for BHF.

Just imagine the guest interest when Hunchie posted his "Where will Colandrea go?" thread?

We'd have had some posters opining that AC liked it here and would stay while others would scoff and disagree saying we'd get outbid by one of the $EC teams. Arguments would ensue and site interest would skyrocket.

A tough break for the short-term. Uenth's entertaining remarks about her 'still pert' caboose can only take the board so far.

Assuming Trae Taylor arrives as planned next year then you would guess Lateef and Kaelin will likely look for opportunities (and paychecks) elsewhere. I am sure schools will be reaching out to them if they haven't already been.

If Taylor is here in 2027 - agree one of the two will not be. Possibly both.

This is not Old Time CFB. There is no conceivable way we went into 2027 with TJ if Colandrea came back with Trae Taylor coming in.

Something was going to have to give. I'll take this scenario over the other options any day.
Didn't say it was bad other than depth - look at other teams like Oregon and tOSU forced to play their back-up QB. Will Taylor be game ready in 2027? Who "fills the gap" if Taylor isn't ready? Ideally one of the two.....but agree that might not be realistic and other options will have to be explored.

Uncertainty is never good. Many here may disagree, but I will believe to my dying day that the uncertainty that swept through the program -- players, coaches & staff -- the week leading up to the Minnesota game we laid an egg in was the result of the all the Rhule to Penn State rumors.

Looking back now, I suspect the final details were already in the works when Coach Rhule made his "SEC teams are already reaching out to Ant" comment. This Colandrea news is a huge momentum boost for everybody both inside and outside of the program as we head into the home stretch of games and recruiting!

You would have to think that Trae will be more game ready than your average true freshman. With him moving here and having access to the program and coaches he should have a great understanding of the playbook and system before he even enrolls. Think about the success that Adrian Martinez had as a true freshman, Trae should be a step or two above that especially considering that Adrian did not play his senior year of high school because of injury. Then throw in the fact that the coaching is better than what Adrian had (not just talking about Rhule vs Frost but factor in Holgorsen, Thomas, etc).

The whole point of a message board is to debate various scenarios and opinions. This thread is working exactly the way it should. I'm pretty risk averse - hence the little voice in the back of head saying "we need a 3rd QB". We'll have a 3rd QB - might be a QB on the current roster....or it could be a Plan B. Having AC10 and Taylor at the same time is better than most QB rooms.....and I think most of you are making a good point that in today's CFB that should be good enough.

Great post, ATX!

Having gotten burned a few times, I'm hesitant to go too overboard about high school QBs before seeing them play a few years of college ball.

But Trae strikes me as having the same kind of arm talent as Dylan with much better mobility and the same maturity as Adrian exhibited with (on paper) a better skill set coming in.

I personally think its helpful for a player like Trae Taylor to experience a B1G season as a backup to a seasoned QB like Colandrea than starting from Day One like DR did. Admittedly, this is a 'way too early' comparison but Taylor strikes me as having a similar style of play as Colandrea.

Retaining the services of Anthony Colandrea is the first piece of the puzzle that will undoubtedly result in a national championship next season.

I didn't even see her face and I'm a believer
Not a trace of doubt in my mind.

Onward
