OFFENSE

It’s also worth monitoring JD Spielman this offseason. While I personally don’t see him leaving, it would make sense for him to do his due diligence when it comes to the NFL considering he is draft eligible as a redshirt sophomore.

JD would be well served to get a year as "the guy" in this offense - which he will be next season.

I would not be surprised to see three true freshmen in the 3 deep at ILB.
Agreed. We simply must get some better players on the field on Defense next season, Freshmen or not. As long as they have the athletic ability, they can learn on the fly.......

Getting Darrion Daniels will go a long way, he looks like a nose tackle, that helps the ends immeasurably if hes better than his little bro Damion, whos coming into his own.
That totally frees up our backers to make plays, no guys getting knocked back creating a wash for the backers to get lost in.
This also creates more depth at end, since Kalhil wont have to play nose, so they wont be as tired, spell with the two young ends, were almost good to go, not perfect, but alot better than this year, when Mick went down, and after Damion would wear out, it was run run run against us.
I meant Carlos, dang twins mess me up

Defense: 69 (44 scholarship, 25 walk-on)

  • Defensive Line: 19 (13 scholarship, 6 walk-on)
  • Linebacker: 24 (16 walk-on, 8 walk-on)
  • Defensive Back: 26 (15 scholarship, 11 walk-on)
really? 19 DT?

Maybe thats to per position, two deep on scholly?

Lots of extra weight on the roster at the RB and WR positions. They need to tell those guys to step up bigtime or invite them to take their talents elsewhere. A championship team isn't going to have seven guys collecting scholarships that you can't remember ever seeing the field.

The O-line has the bodies, and they started to play a little better at the end of the season. I'm hoping Year Two is when they really make a jump to look like a real Nebraska line. Losing so many seniors is going to hurt no matter what.

2 keys for next season - having a WR option besides #10 we can rely on (and maybe that means playing Mo Wasington as a slot receiver more...but we'll need some RBs to step up to do that) and better interior D play (DT/DE and ILB). Do those - we'll have some fun next year.

That's DTs and DEs.

Frost wants a lot of bodies at RB and WR (he's said at least 10 scholarships at WR). There is some dead weight and some kids who really need to step up next year or they'll be dead weight, too.
