Big Ten COVID Cancellation Policy

You must not know of anyone who has had a serious complication from a vaccine. For those of us that have, it's not as simple as you make it out to be, and there sure isn't zero risk to getting the jab. This Covid vaccine has a new delivery method never used on the populace, so there is that. There is also a VAERS database that has quite a bit of data concerning what can go wrong with being vaccinated. I'm not anti-vax, have had plenty, and have made sure my kids have received most of them, but there are some that the risk/reward isn't worth it in my view. And, risks will vary from person to person depending on their unique health situation/body chemistry. I would like to be able to make that decision instead of someone else forcing it on me. Now, back to the topic, it will be interesting to see how they handle some of these situations where the team has 100% vaccination and still has players test positive. It seems clear it will still cause a forfeit, but what/who will they blame and go after then?

This is where they move the goal post again and recommend that annual booster for the:

Delta, Echo, Foxtrot, Golf, Hotel, India, Juliet, Kilo, Lima, Mike, November, Oscar, Papa, Quebec, Romeo, Sierra, Tango, Uniform, Victor, Whiskey, X-ray, Yankee, Zulu

Variants.

Thank goodness your parents didn't take this approach or deadly diseases like polio -- which killed my aunt and nearly killed my mother as teenagers -- would still exist instead of being essentially wiped out.

If someone is going to make the decision to avoid getting the covid vaccine shots, no one is going to come around to their homes and force them to. But on the other hand, I fully support employers requiring them of their employees and universities requiring them of their students, faculty, and staff.

This ain't political, it's plain ol' common sense. It's past time to put this damn pandemic behind us.

Amen, DrF, Amen!

We worked with a woman who was one of the last cases of polio in KS. Her bones were so brittle from the polio that twisting an ankle would break her leg. She had a horrible limp when we worked together. Once she retired, she got one of those cute little red scooter things and motors around her house and yard with it.

If the shot would have been released 3 months earlier, she would have been vaccinated and fine.

There is no comparison between COVID and Polio. These two facts say it all as far as COVID deaths are concerned. Average age for death in the US 78.5, average age for death from COVID 82.4. COVID attacks the old and frail. Noting like Polio.

History is littered with bodies of people who died for the common good imposed by governments.

It's interesting you should mention polio, because my great uncle ended up disabled after getting the polio vaccine, with the effects lasting all of his life, and the link was medically verified. The fact is Polio isn't Covid-19, and it isn't even close. You can support what you like, but spare me the f@cking lecture about what my parents did or didn't do, and then linking that to Covid-19....

Sorry Doc, there’s absolutely no comparison between COVID and Polio. Except they were both pandemics.

I just did a paper for a Strategic Leadership Class and used our model at Naval Hospital Corpsman School on how we handled COVID. All the data I researched and used puts it more along the lines of Influenza A. The biggest difference between the two is in the mortality rate of 70 y/o and above where it jumps from around 3.5% to 7%.

Polio was killing and having long lasting effects in children on up. I did get the vaccine but the jury is still out. I know this, if you had COVID already and have built up immunity then the vaccine is going to put you down for a few days.

Yes, it’s been very politicized. They way some people act you’d think COVID is hunting people down on the streets and attacking them.

Polio was also around for about 2,000 years and had proven staying power. For all we know COVID may end up like the Spanish flu and go away on it's own.

Sorry, I had COVID and hub had COVID. We both got both doses of Pfizer and were not down for a few days. I had sniffles and a sore arm with the first dose and not even much of a sore arm 2nd go around. Hub had some of the same symptoms as he initially did but much milder with his first dose. Didn't keep him down at all. 2nd shot, he mostly had a sore arm. I've got probably 6 customers who also had COVID and didn't have any issues with their jabs either.

I honestly don't understand why getting vaccinated should be a "hot button" issue. People are acting like requiring vaccines for work or school is something new. We've had vaccine "mandates" for well over sixty years in this country. No child goes to public schools (or most private ones as well) without showing proof of vaccination for a variety of diseases. So why is this one different?

As with any drug, there are always potential side-effects. But that's why we require FDA-approval in this country to assure the public they can trust them. Getting vaccinated is the commonsense way for our players and coaches to avoid getting COVID and increase our chances of seeing a full season of Husker games this fall.

GBR!!!
And weve had people not getting them for just as long.

Those diseases are way worse than covid.
40 million in this country have had it, imagine if that were polio numbers.
There would be drastic changes if polio were so easy to catch as covid is.
I think the Big makes a team forfeit that cant play is a good move.
All I am saying ,is give benchwarmers a chance

Well, like all medical interventions, inoculations, and procedures. Not everyone reacts the same way. Hence my point, we can never get away from informed consent, medical history, and allowing people to make their own choice when it comes to healthcare. Pandemic or not.

Actually I agree with you but but but there are exceptions to innoculation rules in school too. You have a huge part of the population that believe vaccines bring on autism....of course the believers in that are soccer moms not doctors. If the idiots in the congress and the senate would stop spending money and pass a federal law requiring covid vax we can whip the pandemic, oh yes an aim Tridents at China.

I’m not an Anti Vaxer either. Vaccines have saved millions if not billions of lives. Probably the best example I’ve ever seen with my own two eyes was a young kid suffering from Tetanus in Haiti. It locked this kid up, after a few routine tetanus vaccines we were able to start manipulating his joints and relaxed his body. (Yes, tetanus will lock you up tight) Of course it wasn’t a cure, he needed long term care and physical therapy but it significantly improved his situation and quality of life. With that said, I’ve seen vaccines maim or even kill. I had a sailor on USS Enterprise lose his eye site on one eye because of Smallpox. Smallpox is a series of pin pricks. Having eczema or any other skin condition is disqualifying because it can actually toss gas on the procedure. This young man touched the site when it was active and somehow rubbed his eye. Even Anthrax has been around for decades and until it was weaponized only certain farmers and vets got it.

My point, none of this is simple and here take a vaccine now move one. We allow politicians and media to make it seem that way.

One of my biggest worries running a Navy Clinic was the Immunization clinic.

My 2 cents.

GO BIG RED! Game Week!!!!!

I’ll be in Nebraska from 25-30 for a family reunion if anyone wants to see how gorgeous I really am.

Mods, could you please remove this blatantly false, anti-vax propaganda?

Unbelievable. We have access to a free vaccine which has a 95% efficacy rate, and we got people posting bullsb** like this. We truly live in the dumbest timeline.

Well, since you want it locked down. What are your thoughts on Joe Biden committing the biggest military strategic mistake in about 50 years? Keep in mind, I’m dealing with it as we speak. Nice way to go out of the Navy.

Stop advocating for speech to be eliminated. I don’t care if it’s false BS! You don’t get what Freedom is! True freedom is allowing people to say and do as they please. Let smart informed American people figure it out. Your thought process of shutting down opinion, thought, and perspective is a bigger problem than any false information.

Because misinformation about Covid is deadly and too many people have unnecessarily lost their lives.

You mean the withdrawl the previous guy negotiated and started?

Probably because there is no politics rule on this board which you, and a handful of others continuously break--with impunity, apparently.
