Best angle yet of the out of bounds catch.

Huh? He doesn't say that at all.

The coaches were right to think the call would go against him as, with his head towards the ball, this call very rarely ends up in favor of the offense.

"Well, we really thought initially it was going to be ruled out of bounds, so we were getting ready for another play from about the 30-yard line," he said. "We were actually surprised when they signaled touchdown."

Chris what was MR inital reaction? A penalty on HIS receiver!!!

If that's your takeaway, then...:dunno:

Mike Riley is saying that he was preparing his team to run another play in the event Riley was ruled out of bounds. That is a FAR CRY from saying "Riley should have been penalized."

Come on dude, stop trying to make the Himalayan Mountains out this molehill, and just enjoy the win for pete's sake.

Jeez.

Never said "should" have been penalized. They were planning because they "could" be penalized. Huge difference. They were doing what coaches should be doing, planning in the event it goes against them.

it seems only Huskernation (most) and think it was the right call, anyone notice what nuetral people are saying?
Watch the play was texted this tonight, the FJ was off the field of play and outside the Limit Line when made call!

Who gives a crap? We got the call. The call was debatable. A strong case could be made either way. If we hadn't gotten the call, we would have scored on the next play, anyway. It was destined to be, because the players, the coaches, and the fans willed it to be so. There were worse calls in that game, some of which went against us. Most of those who are "convinced" it was a bad call conveniently ignore the defenders forearm riding our receiver out of bounds. Whatever. We won. We earned it, We aren't giving it back.

Next!

Like I said in an previous post when your there and seeing it in real time (and for whatever reason my mind told me as the ball was snapped to keep my eye on Brandon) and I followed Riley every step he made and had a good angle to see the entire play the Mich.St. D.B. did extend his arm and make contact even tried to grab hold of Brandon but he moved to his left to get clear of the D.B. saw the Ball was going to be to the inside and made the needed direction change to catch the ball clean. Now you can nit pick this play all you want I know (as well as 99.9% of the fans there know) what I saw and the referees got it right it was a no foul situation because there was contact initiated by the Defensive Back that made Riley move out of bounds he then came back in took 3 steps (to re establish himself into the play) to get the proper angle and caught the ball clean for a touchdown period end of story.
Argue about it all you want but those of you who say it should have been flagged ......well quit your day job, go to school to learn how to wear the zebra shirts, grab a whistle and get to work.
It never ceases to amaze me how many of you so called fans come out of the woodwork and try your damnedest to hang a dark cloud over some luck going our way for a change what a shame.....I bet you all think that the catch made by Penn State against Nebraska in back in 1982 where the Penn St. Player Mike McCloskey was almost a yard out of bounds and the ref's called it in when clearly by the rewind of the tape shows he was indeed 3 feet out of bounds that blown call with 9 sec left in the game led to them scoring and cost us a National Title..... you all think that was a good call......and your the same bunch that said the clock still had 1 sec remaining in the big 12 ch. Game with Texas.....when their QB ( who's name is not worth mentioning here) threw it away to keep Big Suh from smashing him again......

What a shame look even the Big 10 Referees board of review says the refs made the right call so for gods sake people get out of your own way will you.....and just enjoy the win and let it alone.....be happy with your team that they played so danged hard and would not give up...played through pain and injury and played with passion and heart.....that's what you should be talking about or if you want.....how a former Lincoln High School kid......a WALK ON NO LESS won this game in crunch time as well has become one of the best in the BIG 10 at his position.

Doc.

They didnt say they made the right call, they said they were right that the play was unreviewable. BIG difference. But I do think they got it right.

Judging by the posters that are the most adamant about the call being incorrect and what their posting history is like, I think it's safe to say...

Ha ha! Nebraska won! Na-na-na-na-naa-na!

No soup for you!

Go back in the corner and cry yourself to sleep!

Nebraska won!

Seriously, I honestly think some posters are angry this happened.

Just a clarification...The rule does not say "pulled, pushed, and drug out of bounds by the defender." The rule is forced out by the defender. When running full speed, it doesn't take much to force somebody off the intended path. There was contact, absolutely no question of that. Depending on which video you view (and more specifically when it starts and the angle of viewing), the contact may not look like it altered Reilly's path, it may still be argued, but I can see where people would question it. There is one video, however, that, IMO, clearly shows Reilly's path is altered when contact by the MSU DB is initiated. To me, that undoubtedly qualifies as forced out of bounds. Reilly did not run out of bounds on his own, it was a direct result of the contact from the DB.

The rest of the play, I don't think is really debatable. Reilly re-established himself within the field of play and completed the catch resulting in a a TD.

It's a judgement call by an individual who presumably would have had the best view of the play. A better view than 90,000+ people in the stands, the millions of fans watching TV, and absolutely better view than those that never saw the play but just want to complain. My opinion is the Ref got it right. Most times, I am able to form an objective opinion regardless of which outcome is better for my team.

If they're going to change the rules, fine. But the problem is, no two referees will ever call a game the same way, therefore ANY rule change(s) will still be interpreted based on that referees judgment. And if we're going to start questioning the judgment of referees on the field, then take them out and just have the game officiated by the guys in the booth. But that is not a solution either because referees need to be on the field to maintain order, spot the ball, keep time, etc. I mean could you imagine a game if there were no refs and some of the typical pushing, shoving and chest-thumping wasn't contained by the officials? There would be a full on brawl that wouldn't abate any time soon.

As Nebraska fans, we've had MORE (WAY MORE) than our share of sh**-sandwich calls go against us, we've criticized referees before, but it is part of the game

Nebraska is football country. Nowhere else in America is as fanatical as like Nebraska. When Detroit says they were jobbed it falls on deaf ears and mostly people in the state could care less.
