I haven't seen this posted around the usual sites yet. Not so sure it was a blatantly bad call now.

Hmm, too shaky/low-res to draw many conclusions, I'd say.

I dunno...I think a case could be made that the MSU defender did "ride" the WR out of bounds.

But even if he the defender didn't..I don't care. Over the years Nebraska has been the victim of some truly horrifying officiating and it is about ____ing time we got one to go our way.

He drove him out of bounds, no doubt about it. The zebra s saw it the same way. End of story

Does 2 to 3 foot of separation define "riding out of bounds?"
This type of play was discussed several years ago in a preseason Rules Meeting. We were told then that use the individual yard markers as a measure. They are 24 inches and there was at least 30 inches of seperation when Reilly stepped out of bounds. Watch his route and he never altered it from start of play to where he stepped out of bound was a straight line. When he stepped out of bounds watch his shoulders they are turning back to the inside and a good 2 to 3 foot of seperation.
Wasn't Kenny Bell be declared ineligible couple years ago because he went 5 yards before trying to reestablish himself after being ridden out of bounds and was tip toeing the sideline trying to get back in?

Which he can do if he is facing the ball throughout, which he pretty much was.

If you pause it clip by clip, you will notice the defender is behind the WR and when he extends his arm, the defender ends up ahead of the WR and the WR is taking his steps out of bounds and then comes back in.

Don't know how much of an influence his arm extension made, but it was clear the positioning changed.

That was my take as well. I thought The DB made contact with his left arm and applied some force, enough to re-route Reilly at least a little bit. MSU DBs were hand checking our WRs all night. They got called for some, but got away with some. If you want use that technique, you will pay a price sometimes. Now, to what degree should that be called, that will be up for debate.......

Contact Joe, with his arm. I never thought the DB was looking back for the ball, only covering up for his mistake. He was clearly beaten by Reilly and IM sure that was part of the conference by the zebras

Like I said in an previous post when your there and seeing it in real time (and for whatever reason my mind told me as the ball was snapped to keep my eye on Brandon) and I followed Riley every step he made and had a good angle to see the entire play the Mich.St. D.B. did extend his arm and make contact even tried to grab hold of Brandon but he moved to his left to get clear of the D.B. saw the Ball was going to be to the inside and made the needed direction change to catch the ball clean. Now you can nit pick this play all you want I know (as well as 99.9% of the fans there know) what I saw and the referees got it right it was a no foul situation because there was contact initiated by the Defensive Back that made Riley move out of bounds he then came back in took 3 steps (to re establish himself into the play) to get the proper angle and caught the ball clean for a touchdown period end of story.
Argue about it all you want but those of you who say it should have been flagged ......well quit your day job, go to school to learn how to wear the zebra shirts, grab a whistle and get to work.
It never ceases to amaze me how many of you so called fans come out of the woodwork and try your damnedest to hang a dark cloud over some luck going our way for a change what a shame.....I bet you all think that the catch made by Penn State against Nebraska in back in 1982 where the Penn St. Player Mike McCloskey was almost a yard out of bounds and the ref's called it in when clearly by the rewind of the tape shows he was indeed 3 feet out of bounds that blown call with 9 sec left in the game led to them scoring and cost us a National Title..... you all think that was a good call......and your the same bunch that said the clock still had 1 sec remaining in the big 12 ch. Game with Texas.....when their QB ( who's name is not worth mentioning here) threw it away to keep Big Suh from smashing him again......

What a shame look even the Big 10 Referees board of review says the refs made the right call so for gods sake people get out of your own way will you.....and just enjoy the win and let it alone.....be happy with your team that they played so danged hard and would not give up...played through pain and injury and played with passion and heart.....that's what you should be talking about or if you want.....how a former Lincoln High School kid......a WALK ON NO LESS won this game in crunch time as well has become one of the best in the BIG 10 at his position.

Its all part of the game and makes it fun. I'm glad we have these collective memories and shared experiences. One thing I am thankful for is that there is more to come! For myself, I don't know that I have been so happy since beating Miami in the Orange Bowl. Or maybe beating aTm at College Station with that drive down the field to end the game.

We've had 15 years of tough sledding yet each of us keep hanging in there. Good on us! :thumb:

:jump: I kinda like these guys. I do t know why other I could be the second one in on the left.

First off, regardless of what angle you see, the defender isn't running parallel to the boundary line. He's running towards the boundary line when Riley goes out of bounds. Regardless of whether or not he has his head turned, he can't impede the receivers route, which he did.

Second, because the defender impeeded Rikeys ability to run straight down the sideline and forcing him out of bounds, Riley can't touch the ball without reestablishing himself inbounds. He does that by getting two feet back in bounds before he touches the ball.

If the defender stays parallel to the sidelines and doesn't impede Rileys route, he intercepts the ball and the game is over.

Doc, it simply amazes me that any HUSKER would argue the play. I guess the internet is all empowering. Its a sad day when the so called fans would disparage a piece of good fortune, not only for the win but the excellent piece of football for Reille to stay with the play and make it and score. I have been a fan for more than fifty years, and I simply do not understand that mentality today that these people try to pass off as being a fan.

You nailed it DOC. I was at the game too sitting in the NW corner of the endzone and the DB was impeding Reilly's ability to stay inbounds. He may not have done it on purpose and neither player may have realized they were that close to the sideline, but you can definitely see that Reilly was forced out of bounds.

I missed where there is mention of being penalized...

Nebraska coach Mike Riley said the ruling surprised him.

"Well, we really thought initially it was going to be ruled out of bounds, so we were getting ready for another play from about the 30-yard line," he said. "We were actually surprised when they signaled touchdown. I think they were actually reviewing whether or not he caught the ball inbounds but that didn't even appear to be close, so that was how it kind of came down."
