Basketball Coaching search..

Well, at the very least, I'm glad the speculation is over concerning Miles. If I were a betting person, I'd put my $$ on Hoiberg as Miles' successor. Here's to a more successful Men's basketball team.

GO BIG RED!

I am sad Tim Miles has been let go. But I understand and will fully support the next head coach for Nebraska basketball.

Tim is a class act and continues to be a class act in his departure. Wish he could have been more successful while here. Hope he does well wherever he goes...except if he plays against the huskers.

Tim set a nice foundation for the next guy to build on, but 116-114 over seven years will not cut it.

I'm giving this one a "like" just because I know where you are coming from.:). Terminations are seldom fun, but if we are going to step up I think this one was necessary.

Odd thing is that I think we groomed Miles for the next school he goes to. I think they will be getting a better coach than we got 7 years ago. Depending on where he goes it would not surprise me to see him have a 60+% win rating.
I don't want to kick the guy while he's down, but 7 years is fair and 1 NIT win in that time doesn't really pop. I don't think our standards are unfairly high unlike some media folks (looking at you, Katz). Make the tourney 2-3 times in 5-7 years, win ONE game, and you're a legend. Heck, DVH never won a CWS game but he's still a god here. It can be done.

Sounds like the 7-14 days that Moos talked about in the presser was so Hoiberg can enjoy a vacation in the Caribbean and then catch his sons basketball games this weekend. And Hoiberg will be announced early next week. Can't relocate the tweet that showed this timeline.

I definitely agree that Miles was given plenty of time. His record at NU is just barely over .500. Miles is a class act and seems to be a nice guy but that's not enough to justify his position. You can be both of those things and coach a winning program.

Yet in the article in the paper, Moos is quoted as saying Hoiberg has not been to Lincoln and they do not have a deal. Moos says he has three candidates he is considering. He gives no indication that Hoiberg to Nebraska is a done deal.

Do you think that is just the public statement and that in reality the deal is really done?

Time will tell. If you look at how the Frost deal went down, it would seem very possible that Hoiberg is "N"; but again that is just conjecture and speculation with a touch of rumoring thrown in for good measure.:D

I think it's just a matter of working out the contract. He could change his mind at the last minute, of course, so you have to have a backup plan.

I was asking Howie because he follows Nebeaska BB closer than most of us

I was asking if he thought it was a done deal but Moos did not want that out as public knowledge yet

In my opinion it's a done deal. But you know what they say about opinions!? When Huskers hosted Butler in NIT I had 2 people tell me that Hoiberg got a late night (as in late night/early morning) tour of the facilities 7-10 days prior to the that Wednesday the 20th. The one has a friend in the athletic/basketball department and he got that info from this person. So Hoiberg has been to town.

It is not a done deal until everything is signed and then it is not always done. Look what happened with Altman at Arkansas and the Houston Nutt cluster at NU. Moos is smart enough to not announce anything until it actually is a done deal. The really good coaches have a lot of options and many will play one team against the other for the best deal. Moos is aware of this and knows how to play the game.
