One of the things I always thought was underappreciated in TO's national championship run is the way Tom and Charlie tag-teamed it. Tom was "Mister Cool" while Charlie was "Mr. Hellfire" I think that contrast in personalities was a good thing back then.
Funny thing, I was actually surprised by how high Dylan was ranked with zero college experience. But that said, I predict his stats will be better than seventh best in the league.
Thanks for posting, innmc. That vid got the ole ticker pumping!
Ah, the good ole days! Thanks for posting, innmc. That vid got the ole ticker pumping!
I loved the retelling of the now-Classic story of Thurman Thomas, Okie State's hotshot RB who (in a mind-boggling act of bravado -- and stupidity) stepped on the defense's team bus on movie night and told the Blackshirts that nobody there will be able to stop him 1-on-1.
Neil Smith stood up from his seat and matter-of-factly responded that it won't matter because tomorrow it will be 11 on 1 to cheers from his teammates.
The next day, Nebraska beat #12 Okie State 35-0 and Thomas got 7 yards in nine carries.
Edit: Just a reminder, Neil's son is a new freshman this year.
Damn innmc that was brutal. Every one of those games felt like they were played yesterday. I am filled with gloom and sadness right now. Thank you.
