Alberts not a candidate for AD.

If they are the best candidate, that's fine. With no direct AD experience I have a difficult time believing he would be the best candidate. Obviously I have no criteria that was/is being used in the search. All I have is my gut instinct. And if he's the one, I'll have reservations just like I had (for other reasons) when Riley was hired.

CAn you fund raise? Are you known to hire good people and fire bad people. Or the other way around? LOL That's about it.

How much fundraising do you really have to do with all of the cash coming in from the BTN--facilities are already state of the art--seriously, how much is enough?

Actually, no. It's more than that. That's how we got Eichorst and Pederson. The AD also has to have a burning desire to win - that way he (or she) will hire the best coaches and either preserve the identity of the existing programs or help to generate new and winning one.

I honestly didn't care if Alberts was the guy or not. All I want is someone who can manage and lead the programs - help the basketball (both) ,baseball and wrestling programs get better, help keep volleyball in the elite and help the football program back to its identity - smash mouth offense rooted in a robust running game and an attacking defense.

I can go along with this.......

I know this is primarily a football site, and it is my favorite program....but it's not my only one. We need health all the way around. We need to be in the top four in The Ten in men's and women's basketball. The baseball team needs to get to the Series occasionally. The volleyball team is there....but it needs to stay there. The women's basketball team was there....it needs to get back. etc etc. The husker fan base is so hungry that it is time we were fed multiple meals in multiple sports.

I will say the desire to win is not enough. We need someone who has a clue. We need someone who has the ability to recognize people who can get us where we want to go......ethically and legally. I think this has been missing. It appears to me, that this mess started with Harvey. If correct, I hope it dies with his retirement.

Having said all that,. I'm still not sure that Coach Riley and his improving staff won't get us there if given enough time. How they handle adversity from here on out will be very telling for me. Some have their minds made up.....I have not yet. I really think Diaco et al, is very interesting and I would love to see how this defense solidifies with a little time.

I'm not sold on Cav. I have always felt that so goes the O-line.....so goes the offense. We can't live on memories of the pipeline. We need a new one.....pronto. Wisky and Iowa have built admirable lines with lower rated recruits than we have. We need to step it up soon, or MR and the rest of the staff won't have the time to show us their stuff.

I know this thread is about the AD, but in the end it is about someone who can hire people, who can hire people to get the jobs done. I hope we get someone who can step out of their comfort zone and recognize, and hire, good program leaders all the way around.

When do we think the hire will be made?

Yesterday there were some comments by ADDR indicating the hire has already been made. Or atleast that is how myself and a couple others interpreted his time on the Carriker Chronicles (combined with Alberts’s convenient timing to withdrawal).

He was an associate AD at Mizzou, so there is that.

That being said, I liked the thought of Del Conte or Byrne, but maybe they were contacted and had no interest. We will never know, but why would either leave the gigs they are at for NU?

I don't know if guys like Jamie Williams or Paul Meyers are in consideration, but I think they would be solid hires.

As far as Ed, I'm not too familiar with the Ricky Clemmons fiasco or what his involvement was.

I have read that Meyers is not interested.

He probably should have gotten the job after Osborne, or even after Pederson.

I just listened to that Chronicle. Nothing stood out to me, what were the things he said that made you feel a hire has been made?

Sure Trev may have denied he is willing to be considered for AD. He didn't say anything about the most important role of AD Director.

I see what you did there.......

I reached out to Trev by Email saying that while I was perhaps a bit sad and disappointed he had decided to remove his name from consideration I understood his train of thought.
I can't in all honesty say I blame him one bit either....although I firmly believe he would have made U.N.L. a Fantastic A.D. and would indeed make the best choices for the University and all Sports moving forward......given the current state of things the job might make an old man out of him fast.....for those of you who remember him as a player this guy gave 110% 24-7-365 to the Football and trust me here when you cut him he still bleeds Husker Red.....as to an insight into who is who now.....I'm hearing several current sitting A.D.'s have great interest ( mostly I'm sure given the Million Dollar size of the paycheck attached to the job ) so I would suggest patience here and keep our collective fingers crossed they select the RIGHT guy....to lead us into the future....I did hear more than a rumbling about my buddy Ed Stewart being mentioned too but I think he is fairly comfortable being the hall monitor in the Texas Nut House formerly known as the Big 12 Conference so I would say not to hold much stock in that...

Doc.
