Everyone states how good of recruiters these guys are. After 3 recruiting classes, granted you could call it 2 1/2. Who is the real deal? Obviously most of them Redshirt sophomores or Freshman but I'm pretty suspect on if they are as good as people thing at recruiting.

Only Offensive Starters are Lee and spielman. Farinok and Lindsay play. Out of the 4, Spielman is probably the best of the bunch there.

Defensive starters are Davis, Jackson, and Alex Davis.

Lamar Jackson? Highly overrated so far.
Davis Brothers- are good players.
Alex Davis- Nothing great yet anyways.

Did you purposely forget Tre Bryant? We actually have a lot of youngens playing. Eric Lee, Bootle, Dismuke, Ferguson, and by all accounts Gebbia, Bradley, Roberts, Daniels and Thomas are the real deal

Yeah, a but premature to ask if the recruits are the real deal. A lot of them look pretty good. I don't like that the offensive plays and play calling don't appear to utilize them better.

Recruiting is fine. It's this playbook and OL techniques that need worked. The lack of commonsense by the OC is my biggest concern. Seems as if Callahan, Pelini and Riley have had recruiting success but then screwed the pooch on concepts and development. Just as Langsdorf passed the ball fifty times against an undersized defensive front, instead of running over them. He lacks commonsense plain and simple.

Everything starts with the OL. We do have some great skill players, but if you can't block for them, their talents are largely wasted. We need to recruit and develop linemen in greater numbers. Until that happens, we'll see more days like last Saturday.

I do not disagree. But what I saw out of our OL yesterday, was just a flat out lack of effort. Can anyone say with s serious face (and mean it) that our OL was giving max effort every snap? Because if that was their "max effort every snap" then we are seriously done for as we enter BIG play.

I have been saying this for the last 4 seasons: Too many of Nebraska's players have an alarming amount of laziness and lack of "want" or "motor." I've been pooh poohed for saying that, but to my eyes, it is the ugly truth.

In the game of football, just giving 100% effort each snap goes a heck of a long way to a team playing well. And Nebraska has lacked that "want" or "motor" for probably 5 seasons in row now.

Correct to a point. The Seniors on this team and the R/S Juniors are Bo's guys. The true JRs and below belong to Riley. This lack of 100% effort was supposed to end when Riley came in. What do we get? A very poor Oline. Cavanaugh needs to be replaced ASAP. Are some of these guys not giving 100% every snap? I'm sure some are. However I'm just as sure the others aren't. Farniok is a R/S Frosh and he absolutely got owned yesterday. He was giving 100% effort, he just has a bad teacher.

I'm not a betting man, but if you get a more techinal teacher for the Oline you'll see a much more improved and consistent Oline play.

Cav was on my "watch list" coming into this year. To say I am completely disappointed to the point of disgusted would be an understatement.

This may be a bit of hyperbole, but my Pop Warner Mitey Mite that I am coaching this year has better technique and more desire (and 2 of the 5 have never played before this year!)

They only had one year under Bo and three years for Riley so to say that they arent giving effort because they are "Bos guys" is kind of a bunch of BS.

At this point whose ever "guys" they are (Pelini vs Riley) is really immaterial. What matters is, this group is playing far below Pipeline" standards and it has been that way for at least the last five seasons.

I know the OL is playing poorly, that is obvious and you can see it plainly. What I don't know is why they are playing poorly. Is it the OL coach's fault? Is there a disconnect between what the OL is doing vs scheme aka Riley and Langsdorf's offense? Are the players (many of them were 4*s by at least one recruiting services grading) over-rated and simply not as good as we thought? The problem is, a legitimate case could be made that the problem is just one of those. Complicating the matter is it could be a mixture of all three.

So... \_(°~°)_/

I don't know which of the JRs redshirted and would be Bo's guys, but I will tell you that when you look at the two deep. You see a bunch of young guys contributing to this team. Younger guys in general are going to be more inconsistent due to their lack of experience. They should still be better than they are though.

No, I seen him then forgot about him with him not playing last game. Eric Lee was a Pelini recruit prior to Riley.

A bunch of folks on this board have said the past 2 years they want BO's recruits gone because they were in large part the biggest issue in Rileys first season. That's what I was referring to. In otherwords folks were insinuating BO's guys were lazy and satisfied with winning 9 games a year. They even said as much last year after the Iowa game.

Going forward the current group of SRs and R/S Jr's on this team definitely want to win. I don't see any laziness or lack of effort. I see DPE is gun shy on PR's for some reason, but his receiving has been good this year. I wish we could see the Freshman DPE on PR's.

David Knevel is a R/S JR on the Oline. All the other guys in the 2 deep (scholarhip or not) are Riley's guys. So he has his people to fit this offense. The fact that they can't block my dead grandmother coming through the line is very disconcerting. If Cav was such a good coach why in season 3 are our linemen still not able to block on a consistent basis? The blame lies solely at Cav's feet on teahcing fundamentals. Riley is the CEO and needs to put Cav on notice that if this is the best he can do, then he needs to go.

I don't understand line technique.

I do understand some of psychology.

Here are the four things that "speak" to me about this season: 1. At times, we run the ball really well. 2. It seemed like there was a lack of awareness about picking up blitzes. 3. Some of the O-Linemen looked positively distraught after the game. 4. In the good ole days, we stockpiled talent and only with rare exceptions did anybody but 5th year seniors play until the game was out of reach. (And they were usually the 4th year seniors.)

Is it possible this is more about youth and inexperience than "want to" or lack of teaching technique?

Depth chart on the OL:
LEFT TACKLE 68 Nick Gates, 6-5, 295, Jr. 65 Christian Gaylord, 6-6, 300, So. 75 Brenden Jaimes, 6-5, 280, Fr. LEFT GUARD 67 Jerald Foster, 6-3, 310, Jr. 50 John Raridon, 6-4, 290, RFr. 74 Jalin Barnett, 6-4, 315, So. CENTER 62 Cole Conrad, 6-5, 300, Jr. 79 Michael Decker, 6-4, 305, So. RIGHT GUARD 63 Tanner Farmer, 6-4, 305, Jr. 56 Boe Wilson, 6-3, 295, RFr. RIGHT TACKLE 77 David Knevel, 6-9, 315, Sr. 71 Matt Farniok, 6-6, 315, RFr. Every starte is either a Junior or Senior.

There isn't any inexperience on that line. They all either started last year or played significantly as a back-up.

Do you think there is a difference between a guy who played freshman ball for the Huskers, redshirted, worked in the weight room, took steroids, and then had to wait until year 4 to get significant playing time and these guys you've listed?

I think there is experience and then there is EXPERIENCE.

When I refer to experience, I mean game or startign experience. All the current starters on our O-line this year were starters either for most of the season or part of the season last year due to injuries. Regardless though they all saw significant PT. The backups on this list with the exception of the Freshmen, R/S Frosh or the Sophomores don't have the experieince.

Ther other point is All but Knevel are Riley recruits. Recruited for this offensive scheme. So there shouldn't be a steep learning curve for fundamentals. So either A) they recruited the wrong guys, B) Don't know how to teach, C) The guys are too dumb to understand what's being taught or D) The coaching is seriously lacking all around on the OL. In year 3 even the Freshmen shghouldn't be getting whipped by inferior DLinemen.

That's fine, but all things being equal, don't you think an older player with the same amount of PT, but longer in the program, in most instances is going to be more successful?
