A week from NOW

This has been a really weird preseason for me. I'm usually hyped up and geeked out beyond belief. But for the first time in my message board history, I've been surprisingly restrained. (If you don't believe me, ask Mrjfb.) :)

I'm hoping this will be a break-out season but I'm not going to stick my neck out (yet again) before seeing how we look.

On one shoulder is a Mini-Me in angel form (natch) saying, "Things were worse off with the program when Smiling Mike left than we realized. It's taken Frost and Company a while to get things back in order, but we're FINALLY going to see B1G-caliber lines on both sides of the ball with a genuine Blackshirt defense, 'real-deal' receivers and some promising running backs led by a seasoned QB ready for a break-out season."

But on the other shoulder is a Mini-Mrjfb in devil form saying, "Yeah, yeah, yeah, we've heard that sunshine crap for years and years and years. And what happened? Most teams are capable of improving by TWO GAMES over their previous season so cross-your-fingers that we MIGHT get to a bowl game at season's end."

I always look forward to the start of the season. Always will. Growing up in the 80s and 90s I will remain spoiled til the day I die. And I will maintain those same outrageous expectations/hopes for every season because some habits die hard.

Agreed. I'm not as energized. Maybe when the first game rolls around and we pound Illinois I will be. We'll see but all this losing really does have an "I don't care anymore" efftect. It really sucks. I've honestly never felt this way going into a new Husker season.

It's not that we don't care, it's that we're protecting our hearts from being crushed.

For you young fans out there, many of us here grew up with an Alabama, Clemson, and Ohio State-type attitude that each game was a fun afternoon of royal butt-kicking. But today watching our once-proud program regularly get it's butt kicked is a different thing altogether.

My famous last words have been, "you can't keep a CFB Blueblood down for long." But with each passing season, those words are getting hollower and hollower.

This fan base desperately needs a break out season this fall.

I'm ready. I picked up a pork butt today to do pulled pork next week. I even found Dorothy Lynch in the local Smiths way out here in the west. It must be a sign. Strangely though I have found many of my Nebraska shirts have somehow shrunk the last year. Got the Nebraska flag out and its ready to go.
I am so ready. Come on depth chart. Hand out the Blackshirts!!!!

GO BIG RED!!!!

It's called congenital dystopia....or cognitive dissonance...something like that. I'm not real good at words and stuff.

Fumble when the Huskers put a half a hundred on them illini you'll come around and then it will be we're going undefeated.
By the way the Illini are Indians right? Will they change their names too?

Was feelin' all back, then some frickin' ncaa allegations broke my stride.

anymore, seems like I should be ready for this weird shi*
You would think we Husker fans should be ready for new sh*t coming. However we aren't/ Just one hit after another. I really do hope this latest crap pisses the guys off so much that they hang 91 points on Illinois breaking their record from 83 when they scored 84 against Minny.

Is this a chicken or the egg issue? No! We the fans do not drive the team, they are supposed to inspire us not the other way around. Yes we should plunder Champlain, the luck we have had over past years is long over due, the guidance and direction of our team long over due. Where are the Devaney's and the Osborne's? We the fans have hope. I will be sitting back in my barcalounger sipping coffee next Saturday hoping that we have started to regain our sense of direction like I do every year. Maybe this year will be different, one thing is sure, we need a fast start and no excuses.
