5-0 Baby

Not a perfect game and there are things to work on a plenty but this team refused to fold. They bent a time or two but it's a nice decisive win over a team that may turn out to be better than what we thought going into the game.

Good job players and coaches!

GO BIG RED!!!

Just got home and saw the great news! Now I'm watching what I missed, which is most of it!

I wanted this win badly as our B1G schedule scares the bejeezus out of me and potentially we could lose out (got it right H99). I don't expect that to happen but I'd like to get bowl qualified as soon as possible to get that monkey off the team's back.

Very mixed bag. Lots of penalties and sloppy play in the 1st half, but the 2nd half was much better.
I said in chat, late 1st qtr or early 2nd qtr, that we would probably win but would not like how we got there. I would change that to we don't like the 1st qtr. Scored a lot of points in the 2nd qtr to go ahead and never looked back after that. Loved the stick to it ness that this team displayed today. I'm not saying "We're back, baby!" but I do believe that the Huskers are headed in the right direction!

GO BIG RED!!!

Defense had a bad first 20 minutes but clearly got it together the rest of the way. I like how we finish games. Playing like veteran team in 4th quarter

We didn't show up ready to play but we got it straightened out. Our D is legit, specials teams is exciting (both good and bad), and AC had his worst game as a Husker. Fortunately, AC's worst game was still pretty good.
My concerns? Penalties, our run game, and depth at TE. If AC keeps running he won't be around in November. Gotta figure that out.
Looking ahead, I hope Rule (and everybody) is healthy next week. It's a challenge I'm looking forward to,

You're spot on! I'm at the point where they just racked up penalty #10 in the 1st half. Wow! I'm not sure I've ever seen so many.
Absolutely. OK, fine. We got by with way too many penalties today. Do that against any of our remaining opponents and it will very likely bite us in our collective arses. We got by with it today. Can't imagine what the score would have been without all those drive killers.

One of the bad stats from today's game? Giving up 23 1st half points.

One of the best stats from today's game? Defense giving up 0 points in the 2nd half.

Yeah, the difference in the defensive play between the first and second halves was night and day. One of several reasons why The Mighty Men of Corn won this game today.and would absolutely NOT have won it years past. The last couple of years I've been pretty vocal that I want to see tangible progress. This, at the very least, qualifies as tangible process!

Absolutely!! If there was no improvement, I think this year's game would have been close just like last year's game. Rob Aurich has turned out to be an absolutely tremendous hire as a DC. This is, schematically, one of the best defenses I've seen Nebraska field since the early Bo Pelini years.

Edit: More importantly, this defense doesn't get burned by the same GD play over and over again.

The Kenny Rogers in me would like to point out not only are the Huskers 5-0 straight up, they are also 5-0 ATS. The North Dakota spread opened at 24.5 and closed at 27.5. The Huskers won by 27. If you got in late you lost, but that's your problem for not jumping on the wagon earlier. TWITA
