2024 Volleyball Thread

I was looking for a little something to pick up NU's spirits.....didn't happen.

Summed up by a play where Penn State got a kill because literally nobody was anywhere near the net. Sloppy, undisciplined nonsense, and honestly infuriating. When Lauren Cook-West is calling Penn State's offense predictable but you never adjust your block, that is where your coach (an undeniable hall of famer) has some explaining to do. Good lord.

Cook is great and has brought a lot of success, but he's left some hardware on the championship floor over the years, including last night. I've never taken him or his teams as having a person with a killer instinct since Larsen/Foeke.

No NC, but not a bad year. A Big10 Championship and a Final Four appearance. Congratulations for a well-played season.

In reality, this Volleyball program is truly "America's Team". They hold the all-time attendance record for women's sports, inspired an ESPN documentary, and set numerous attendance records wherever they played.

They are losing some great players, but I think they will be on top again next season.

Volleyball shows $1.3M in profit for fiscal 2024

According to financial documents submitted to the NCAA, the Huskers earned a profit of $1,342,221. Even when including beach volleyball, which earned a scant $9,310 in revenue, the volleyball program cleared $1.14 million in profit.

Volleyball Day in Nebraska produced $2.7 in revenue with a profit estimated at $850,000, according to the Lincoln Journal Star. Overall, the event generated an estimated $6.7 million in economic impact for the City of Lincoln, according to PredictHQ.

The $1.342 million is a record for the volleyball program, a sharp increase over the $6,572 cleared by the sport last year. The previous high-water mark for the program came in fiscal 2017 when it earned $1.227 million. Those are the only two years the program has topped $1 million in profits. Since the 2014 season, volleyball has made money each year, except for the pandemic-impacted year of 2020-21, when the entire athletic department suffered almost a $12 million loss.

Nebraska volleyball continues to be an anomaly in women’s athletics. It was the only women’s sports progam, regardless of sport, in fiscal 2023 to make money and continues to add to the Huskers’ coffers. Volleyball was one of three sports at Nebraska to turn a profit in 2023-24. Football cleared more than $44 million, while men’s basketball was in the black by more than $5 million.
